Even though they were missing tight end Travis Kelce, the Chiefs blew out the Pittsburgh Steelers at home in Week 16, 36-10. Patrick Mahomes took care of most of the business for the Chiefs against the Steelers, as he finished with 258 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions on 23/30 completions. Kelce, however, could return as soon as Week 17 from a COVID-19 positive result, and in the event that he does make his way back to the field, he will be a big headache for Cincinnati’s defense that had just allowed 125 receiving yards to Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews. Even if Kelce misses another game, the Chiefs have a deep receiving corps that a red-hot Mahomes can use to torch the Bengals. Kansas City is now on an eight-game win streak, during which the Chiefs have averaged 29.1 points.
The Chiefs are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Cincinnati Bengals (+4.5)
Regular Season Record: 9-6
Joe Burrow and the Bengals did what they were supposed to do in Week 16, decimating the Ravens at home for a 41-21 victory. The Ravens’ defense did not have its big hitters, and Burrow took full advantage. He ended the contest with 525 passing yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions on 37/46 completions. That was as good as it is going to get for the Bengals this season. It’s unlikely that Burrow is going to touch that many yards again in Week 17 against the Chiefs, but the momentum from that performance could be enough to give Cincinnati’s passing attack extra mojo against Mahomes and company. The tandem of Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase had a total of 319 receiving yards and two touchdowns against Baltimore while running back Joe Mixon also had 70 receiving yards to go with a touchdown on six catches and six targets.
The Bengals are 4-2 against the spread in their last six games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 28-24.
