NFL News and Previews

Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (+5.5)

The Kansas City Chiefs returned to winning ways Sunday with a commanding 24-3 victory over the New York Jets at Arrowhead Stadium. It was a huge bounce-back win for the Chiefs, who suffered a gut-wrenching 19-12 setback against the Houston Texans in Week 2. With their victory against the Jets, the Chiefs improved their season record to 2-1.

The Chiefs now set their sights on a possible 3-1 start when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers this coming Sunday. For Kansas City to achieve this feat, it needs to continue its excellent play on the defensive end. The Chiefs’ defense was simply relentless on Sunday as it forced Ryan Fitzpatrick to throw six costly interceptions. Fitzpatrick finished the game with a measly quarterback rating of 5.0. Such was Kansas City’s dominance in this game that the Jets piled up their most turnovers since setting a franchise record with 10 against the Patriots back in 1976.

The Chiefs are allowing just 16.3 points per game this season, eighth-fewest in the NFL. They will need to be at their best, though, against a Pittsburgh side that’s averaging 34.2 points over their last five home games.

The Chiefs are 5-2 SU and ATS in their last seven road games.

Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5)

The Pittsburgh Steelers are no longer unbeaten. The Philadelphia Eagles handed the six-time Super Bowl champions their first loss of the season, 34-3, in a one-sided showdown at Lincoln Financial Field. The Steelers simply had no answer for rookie quarterback Carson Wentz who threw for 301 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They will look to get their season back on track when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs this coming Sunday. For the Steelers to record the much-needed win, they will need to execute much better on the offensive end. Ben Roethlisberger struggled mightily against the Eagles, completing just 24 of 44 passes for 257 yards and one interception. Big Ben didn’t throw a single touchdown pass against Philadelphia after tossing six in his first two games.

Regardless of that fact, the Steelers will still fancy their chances of grabbing the win this coming weekend as they have fared extremely well against the Chiefs at home of late. The Steelers have won each of their last three home games against the Chiefs. The Steelers have covered the spread in two of those three outings.

Pittsburgh defeated Kansas City, 20-12, in their last meeting at Heinz Field back in 2014. Le’Veon Bell starred in that victory, rushing for 63 yards and a score. The good news for the Steelers is that Bell will be making his grand return to the starting lineup this coming weekend. He will provide a much-needed boost to a Pittsburgh offense that’s averaging just 100 yards per game on the ground this season, 17th in the NFL. The Steelers were held by the Eagles to just 29 rushing yards on Sunday.

The Steelers are 7-3 SU and 5-3-2 ATS in their last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction
