Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (27-3, 15-2 Big 12)
The Kansas Jayhawks solidified their hold of the top spot in the AP Top 25 rankings with a 73-63 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners on Monday night. The Big 12 champion Jayhawks finished the game with a back-breaking 31-11 run to stun the Sooners and in the process record their seventh consecutive victory.
Starring for the Jayhawks in this come-from-behind win was Frank Mason III. The senior guard delivered on senior night, scoring 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. Mason has now scored in double figures in each of his last 23 games. He has been a workhorse for the Jayhawks, playing at least 39 minutes in his last five games. His value to Kansas can’t be overstated enough with Mason attempting to become the first player in Big 12 history to average 20 points and five assists in a single season.
Mason’s nearly there with the 5-foot-11 point guard averaging 20.3 points and 4.9 assists heading into Kansas’ final regular-season game against Oklahoma State. Mason was also the difference in the Jayhawks’ 87-80 victory over the Sooners earlier this season, scoring 22 points, grabbing five boards and dishing out four assists.
Kansas is 9-1 SU and 4-5-1 ATS in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (20-10, 9-8 Big 12)
The Oklahoma State Cowboys had their five-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night with a gut-wrenching 86-83 loss to the Iowa State Cyclones. The Cowboys simply had no answer for Matt Thomas who scored 25 points. With the loss, the Cowboys have now been swept by the Cyclones for the fourth straight year.
The Cowboys will look to end their regular season on a high note when they host No. 1 Kansas this coming Saturday. A win here would boost Oklahoma State’s chances of sneaking into the Big Dance. They need to keep the victories going to overcome their mediocre 9-8 conference record. For that to transpire, the Cowboys will need to ratchet up their defense against the Jayhawks. Oklahoma State surrendered 86 points to Iowa State on Tuesday after allowing an average of just 72.4 points in their previous five games. The Cowboys can ill afford a repeat of that defensive performance against the Jayhawks who are 19th in the nation in scoring, averaging a whopping 82.1 points per game this season.
With regards to their offense, the Sooners will once again rely on the hot shooting of Jawun Evans. He scored 29 points on 8-of-15 shooting in the loss to the Cyclones. Evans has been a vital cog in Oklahoma State’s late-season surge, leading the team not only in scoring (18.6 PPG) but also in assists (6.0 APG) and steals (1.9 SPG) as well.
Oklahoma State is 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS in its last six home games.
