TV Broadcast: UFC Fight Pass
Odds: Karl Roberson (+160) vs. Marvin Vettori (-200)
Betting on Karl Roberson (-200)
MMA Record: 14-4-1
Like Vettori, Roberson is also on a two-fight win streak, having submitted Roman Kopylov in Moscow last November and scored a split decision win over Wellington Turman in July of 2019. Roberson showed sheer toughness and resiliency in his win over Kopylov, as he managed to snag a victory despite the fight nearly getting stopped due to a cut in his eyelid. He finished Kopylov via rear-naked choke to improve his submission record to 4-2. Roberson’s ground-and-pound game is nothing to scoff at. Over 30 percent of his strikes happen on the ground and another 32 percent occur during a clinch. Vettori, on the other hand, lands just 12 percent of his strikes on the ground. Roberson is also absorbing just 1.81 strikes per minute while Vettori takes 2.89. While not a knockout artist, Roberson does possess some serious power, as evidenced when he rocked Glover Texeira with some great shots, albeit in a loss in January of 2019.
Betting on Marvin Vettori (+160)
MMA Record: 9-2-0
It was not that long ago when Vettori gave Israel Adesanya run for his money when he lost in a split decision against the current middleweight champion back two years ago. Vettori managed to recover from that loss, though, as he won against Cezar Ferreira and Andrew Sanchez in back-to-back fashion and both via three-round unanimous decisions. Vettori is known more for his grappling skills. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, Vettori has eight submission wins against zero losses in that manner. He also has two knockout wins and has never been knocked out yet. Vettori has a good chin and solid defense. His stats show that he can keep in step with whatever Roberson does inside the octagon in their upcoming fight, though, he still has to be careful. Speaking of which, Vettori allowed just one clean strike in a clinch in his win against Sanchez while landing 11 of his own. He also landed 74 significant strikes against just 38 by Sanchez.
Writer’s Prediction
