Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers
Carlos Frias hasn’t faced the Giants as a starter thus far in his young career. That’ll change tonight, as the Dodgers send him to the mound to start opposite Tim Hudson of the defending champions.
[sc:MLB240banner ]Frias (3-0, 2.89) was elevated into the Dodgers’ rotation early this month as a fill-in for injured starter, Brandon McCarthy. In his most recent start, Frias surrendered three earned runs in six innings of work in the Dodgers’ 5-4 loss to Miami on April 13. Thus far in his career, Frias has pitched just 4.1 total innings of relief versus the Giants with two earned runs allowed on five hits.
Frias will be helped by the Dodgers’ offense that has been killing it at the plate whenever they face the Giants’ Hudson. Hudson has a 0-4 record with a 5.68 ERA in his last five starts against LA. Among the Dodgers hitters that have fared well against the 39-year-old righty is Adrian Gonzalez, who is 10-for-27 (.370) with two homers and five RBIs off Hudson.
Another factor going in Frias’ favor later tonight is that he’ll pitch in one of the pitcher-friendliest parks in the majors. In fact, AT&T Park has the second lowest run rating in the MLB. The Dodgers are 3-0 in their last three road games.

Betting on the San Francisco Giants
The Giants are beginning to make things happen at the plate, as they scored 30 runs in their recent three-game series sweep of the Cincinnati Reds on the road. The Giants hope that their bats remain hot as they look to give Tim Hudson some much-needed run support in the series opener against the Dodgers. San Francisco is 3-0 in its last three home games against the Dodgers.
Hudson is having a rough start to the season, as he’s just 1-3 with a 4.57 ERA thus far this year. He’s been especially bad over his last two starts, wherein he gave up nine earned runs on 21 hits in 12 total innings of work. That’s not to mention that Hudson’s not been getting enough cushion with only 2.58 run support received per nine innings pitched this season. Hopefully for Hudson, Hunter Pence and company will continue to wreak havoc at the plate later tonight.
In two games played since returning from the disabled list due to a broken left arm, Pence has hit 4-for-8 with a homer and two RBIs. Brandon Belt, meanwhile, has been a monster at the plate over the Giants’ last three games. During that stretch, the first baseman went 9-for-14 with three home runs.
Writer’s Prediction
San Francisco (EVEN) wins, 6-4.
