Betting on the Marquette Golden Eagles (odds)
Record: 23-6 Overall/15-3 Conference
Marquette won its most recent game, defeating the DePaul Blue Demons at home last Saturday, 90-84. The Golden Eagles, with that victory, have extended their win streak to four games and added to their lead atop the Big East Conference standings. To underscore just how great Marquette’s form of late is, just note that included in the team’s current win streak were wins against the likes of the Xavier Musketeers and the Creighton Bluejays, who were ranked 16th and 19th, respectively, at the time of those contests. Marquette’s offense has been fantastic this season, and it entered the meeting with the Blue Demons 13th nationally with an average of 80.5 points per game.
Marquette is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games.
Betting on the Butler Bulldogs (odds)
Record: 14-15 Overall/6-12 Conference
Butler is coming off a win last Wednesday against the Blue Demons on the road, 59-58. Having not played a game since that contest, the Bulldogs will be the more rested team than Marquette this coming Tuesday. Simas Lukosius and Ali Ali led the way for Butler against the Blue Demons, scoring 15 points apiece. While Butler didn’t shoot particularly well versus DePaul, the Bulldogs didn’t let the Blue Demons have a field day offensively either, holding their opponents down to just 38.6 percent shooting from the field. The Bulldogs will look for their pesky defense to help them pass a test versus Marquette. After all, the Bulldogs entered the weekend fourth in the Big East with a defensive turnover rate of 17.7 percent. They also have to cut down on their errors, as they had 19 turnovers in the loss to Marquette earlier this month.
Butler is 4-2 against the spread in its last six outings.
Writer’s Prediction
Marquette wins, 78-67.
