Maryland Terrapins – March Madness Team Predictions, Odds and Preview 2017

Maryland Terappins (Overall: 24-8, Conf: 12-6)

College Basketball News and Previews

Team Strengths:

This is a team that can hit good on both ends of the floor. They have a decent stroke from the outside and they can also suffocate opponents with their inside and outside defense – 88th in threes, 45th in blocks, and 51st in allowed field goal shooting.

Melo Trimble’s (17 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 3.7 APG) speed and offensive abilities will continue being a cause of headache to defenders, since he can create opportunities for himself and others from various areas in the court.

Team Weaknesses:

Melo Trimble – the Terappins’ leader in minutes, attemts, points, and assists – is a big part of their strengths AND weaknesses because they simply rely on him too much. He does have the skillset to be a leader, but no player should be entrusted with such heavy workload – although we can also argue that Trimble doesn’t trust his teammates that much.

The Terappins’ next three scorers – Anthony Cowan, Justin Jackson, and Kevin Huerter – barely combine for 30 points per contest and they collectively shoot a mediocre 42.7 percent from the floor.

Along with that is the abundance of second chance points they give up to the other team. They may play defense that alter shots, but they can’t stop the opposition from getting it back, as they allow a whopping 11.7 offensive rebounds every game.

Team Stats:

Category Stat Rank
Points Per Game 74.2 157th
Rebounds Per Game 35.9 174th
Blocks Per Game 4.7 45th
3-Point Percentage 36.3 117th
Free Throw Percentage 69.8 183rd

Starting Lineup:

Position Name PPG
C Damonte Dodd 6.4
F Justin Jackson 10.4
F Kevin Huerter 9.0
G Melo Trimble 17.0
G Anthony Cowan 10.5

Writer’s Prediction:

Maryland gets the booted out at the round of 32.
