Betting on the Maryland Terrapins (+14.5)

Perry Hills’ status is questionable for this game. But even if the senior quarterback does manage to play, it’s unlikely that he’ll be at his full health. What’s more, his presence won’t even matter if the Terps, who have lost five of their last six games (1-5 ATS), continue giving away points to opponents.

Maryland’s defense has allowed 169 points in total in its previous three games, all of which were losses. To be fair, those setbacks were against superior teams in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio State.

The Terps’ hopes of becoming bowl-eligible have obviously gotten slimmer with their consecutive downfalls. They have two games left, and need to win at least one to extend their season.

Beating No. 18 Nebraska on the road looks unlikely, considering Maryland’s ugly quarterback situation. And if Hills does sit this one out, head coach D.J. Durkin has no other choice but to lean on the less-experienced hands of Caleb Rowe or Tyrrell Pigrome behind center.

That scenario, though, could potentially be a blessing in disguise as the Cornhuskers currently rank 10th in the Big Ten when it comes to stopping the pass.

Betting on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (-14.5)

No. 18 Nebraska also needs a win here, but it’s for a different reason. The Huskers still have a shot to play in the conference title game if they win their final two games and receive some outside help, specifically a Wisconsin loss.

Last weekend, the Huskers found themselves in a dogfight with Minnesota, as they needed some heroic efforts from Tommy Armstrong Jr., who threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for crucial 13-yard score in the final period, to capture the 24-17 victory.

The defense delivered as well after consecutive rough showings in an overtime loss to the Badgers and a humiliating 62-3 setback to Ohio State. Nebraska surrendered a season-low 265 total yards to the Golden Gophers, which was mostly thanks to the efforts of Aaron Williams and Josh Banderas, who had 11 tackles each.

The Huskers, however, could be in trouble with Armstrong Jr. still labeled as day-to-day due to an ailing hamstring.

Nebraska is 8-2 SU and 5-4-1 ATS in its last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Nebraska (-14.5) wins it, 31-24.
