Andrew Cashner (4-10, 4.73 ERA) is back after missing his last start with a blister. Hopefully for Cashner and the Marlins, the extra rest would end the pitcher’s lengthy winless streak. Cashner last won a game back in July, before he was acquired by Miami via a trade with the Padres.  Since then, Cashner has gone 0-3 with a 4.61 ERA in his last six appearances.

It wasn’t all Cashner’s fault though. In fact, he’s been pitching better of late, allowing just two earned runs in his last two starts, spanning 11 innings. Part of the blame must be pinned on the Marlins’ offense that was able to muster just three runs over during that stretch.

This time, Cashner is hoping he’ll get the timely run support he’s been longing from his new teammates. J.T. Realmuto is among those Cashner is counting on to deliver at the plate with the catcher going 8-for-21 with three doubles and a homer over his last six games as of this writing. Martin Prado, meanwhile, is 9-for-25 in his last seven outings.

Betting on the Cleveland Indians

The Indians just keep on padding their lead atop the American League Central, as They are coming off a sweep of a three-game series against Minnesota. The Tribe will look to extend that streak when they host Miami later tonight.

On the mound for Cleveland for Game 1 of this series is Carlos Carrasco (9-7, 3.23 ERA), who was charged a loss in his last start. Carrasco allowed three earned runs on seven hits in just four innings of a 7-0 loss to Texas on August 27. He finished August with a 2-3 record and a 5.20 ERA, his highest so far this season.

While Cleveland’s offense gave him nothing to fall back on in the Texas game, there’s still reason for Carrasco to expect his teammates to bounce back. For one, Marlins Cashner has been bad on the road, where he’s 0-5 with a 6.45 ERA and .285 opposing batting average this year.

Cleveland is 4-0 in its last four home games.

Writer’s Prediction
