Michigan churned out yet another dominant win last Saturday, as the Wolverines crushed the Northwestern Wildcats at home to the tune of a 33-7 score. It almost feels like that game was a warmup for the Wolverines for their upcoming showdown against Michigan State in East Lansing. It was all about the rushing attack for Michigan against Northwestern, with the Wolverines getting 119 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns from Blake Corum and 110 rushing yards and a pair of rushing scores too from Hassan Haskins. Michigan’s ground attack is a threat to any team. The Wolverines are no. 1 in the Big Ten conference with an average of 253.29 rushing yards per game. Whatever happens, Michigan will look to get things going on the ground. Michigan is also looking forward to showcasing its elite defense this coming weekend.
The Wolverines, who are second nationally with 14.3 points allowed per contest, are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games on the road.
Betting on the Michigan State Spartans (+3.5)
Record: 7-0 Overall / 4-0 Conference
Michigan State remains undefeated after surviving the Indiana Hoosiers on the road with a 20-15 victory on Oct. 16. The Spartans then took a nice rest in a Week 8 bye, as they prepare for a home game against their fierce rivals, the Wolverines. The last time they were at home, the Spartans destroyed the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Oct. 2, 48-31. The win over Indiana wasn’t the smoothest for the Spartans offensively, as Payton Thorne tossed two interceptions while the rushing attack averaged just 2.9 yards per carry. But it also showed again that Michigan State can win with its defense leading the way. Michigan State forced three Indiana turnovers and also recorded three sacks. The Spartans’ pass rush could be the one that throttles Michigan’s elite pass protection. They lead the Big Ten with 26.0 sacks through seven games. The Wolverines have allowed just three sacks on the season but allowed one in their last game against Northwestern.
The over is 4-1 in Michigan State’s last five games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
Michigan wins, 27-20.
