Betting on Milos Raonic (-160)
Raonic sent American Mackenzie McDonald packing for an early vacation after eking out a 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 win in the fourth round. Now, Raonic will look to take another American out of contention against Isner this coming Wednesday. Raonic leaned on his superb service game, as he made Mackenzie eat 37 aces and 74 winners against just five and 24, respectively, by his opponent. Raonic also put 66 percent of his first serves in and scored in 89 percent of those chances. He also did not let Mackenzie to have any chance of breaking serve, a clear evidence of how dominant his serves were. Raonic is second at Wimbledon in first serves points won percentage with an 87 percent clip, second behind Roger Federer’s 92 percent.
Betting on John Isner (+130)
Raonic stands 6-foot-5 but he isn’t the only big server in this matchup, as Isner is five inches taller than him – and also uses his length and height to dart powerful serves across the court. The 33-year-old Isner came out on top of his fourth-round date with a 6-4, 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-4) win over Stefanos Tsitsipas. Isner recorded 22 aces and 54 winners in that match, while also successfully putting into play 77 percent of his first serves into play and winning 88 percent of his first-serve points. Tsitsipas only had one chance to break Isner’s serve and he failed to cash in on that lone opportunity. Isner is 3-2 all-time against Raonic, though, they have yet to meet in a grass match.
Writer’s Prediction
Isner beats Raonic in four sets.
