Record: 34-29
The Brewers’ bats couldn’t come up with anything in Game 1 of this series, leaving them with a 4-0 loss to the Mets. Milwaukee, however, might not need a bunch of runs to get it through the second game of this matchup, with Corbin Burnes on the mound later tonight. Burnes is easily one of the best pitchers this season. While he is just 3-4, he owns a 2.48 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. Burnes is still looking to get his first win of the month after picking up losses in his first two June starts – both at home. He seems to be better on the road, though, as Burnes is 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA and a .188 OBA in six starts away from American Family Field. Outfielder ChristianYelich has hit .292 in his last 12 games, while first baseman Rowdy Tellez is batting .271 with 3 RBIs in his last 13.
The Brewers are 14-5 in their last 19 Wednesday games.
Betting on the New York Mets (+1.5)
Record: 41-22 Conference
The Mets are building another win streak, as they have now won two games in a row. Chris Bassitt delivered a sterling performance in the series opener with 8.0 innings of a scoreless job against the Brewers, and that’s something lefty David Peterson is looking to duplicate. On the season, Peterson is 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. In his last appearance, he pitched for just 2.2 innings but struck out three hitters with just an earned run on 3 hits in a 7-3 victory on the road over the Los Angeles Angels on June 10. The Mets have also gone undefeated in the last seven games where Peterson took to the mound. Behind Peterson is the Mets’ offense that is second in the majors and no. 1 in the National League with a 116 wRC+. New York is also fourth in the MLB with a .327 wOBA.
The Mets are 4-0 in their last 4 games as a home underdog.
Writer’s Prediction
The Brewers win, 3-2.
