Minnesota Vikings vs New England Patriots Predictions, Picks, Odds, and Betting Preview – NFL Week 13 – December 2, 2018

The New England Patriots are a win away from securing a winning record for an incredible 18th-straight season. Also, a win this Sunday will make sure that the Minnesota Vikings will have to wait for at least another year for a chance to break their winless drought in Foxboro. The Vikings, who last won in New England in 2000, are trying to build another win streak after taking down Aaron Rodgers and the Packers last Sunday.

The Patriots are +650 to win Super Bowl 53, while the Vikings are +3,000 to take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (6-4-1)

The Vikings’ passing attack has proven itself to be effective, and that was abundantly evident last Sunday, when quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for 342 passing yards and three touchdowns without an interception to lead Minnesota to a 24-17 home win over the Green Bay Packers.  Adam Thielen had 125 receiving yards and a touchdown while pulling down eight catches on nine targets. Stefon Diggs had 77 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight receptions and 11 targets. Cousins is ninth in the league with a solid 101.9 passer rating, while Thielen has 93 receptions thus far – the third most in league history through the first 11 games of the season. Diggs isn’t far behind with 79 receptions, good for fifth in the NFL. Thielen and Diggs are one of only two pairs in the top 10 of receptions this season. With those two talented targets downfield, Cousins has managed to amass a total of 3,289 passing yards, fifth highest among all players this season. Defensively, the Vikings’ defense will look to impose its will on the Patriots. Minnesota is fifth against the pass and tied for third in sacks with 36.0.

The over is 5-1 in the Vikings’ last six road games.

Betting on the New England Patriots (8-3)

Rob Gronkowski is back. It’s music to the ears for Patriots fans and a sight to behold for them in New England’s last Sunday, when the hulking tight end recorded 56 receiving yards and a touchdown on three receptions in a 27-13 annihilation of the New York Jets on the road – his first game back after missing three of the previous four games. It’s comforting for the Pats to know that Gronk is healthy, but he’s barely the only dangerous New England offensive weapon not named Tom Brady. Running back Sony Michel rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown, while receiver Julian Edelman had 84 receiving yards and a score on four receptions. Gronk is a matchup problem for the Vikings, while Michel and James White are confounding assignments on defense, so the Patriots’ ability to manufacture yards and points even against a stout Minnesota defense should not be discounted. The same can be said of the oft-overlooked defense of the Patriots, who are allowing opponents to complete just 60.59 percent of their pass attempts – third lowest in the league.

The Patriots are 5-0 SU in their last five home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Minnesota wins, 24-21.
