NFL News and Previews

Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (-3)

For Sam Bradford, who got traded by the Eagles just six weeks ago to make way for rookie Carson Wentz, October 23rd couldn’t come any sooner. The Vikings QB certainly has a chip on his shoulder and he’ll have that as an added motivation, along with the confidence in the invincibility that his team has been showing.

Minnesota, arguably the biggest surprise team this season, is sitting comfortably with a league-leading 5-0 record – the only unbeaten team left. Bradford has started in four of those games was able to compile the second-best passer rating in the NFL (109.7), tossing six touchdowns and zero interceptions.

The main highlight of the Vikes this season, however, is their defense. Through five games, the unit is topping several statistical categories on D, including points allowed (12.6, first), sack yardage (145, first), opposing QB’s completion percentage (55.5, first) opposing QB’s passer rating (65.3, first), yards per pass attempt (6, first), sacks (19, second), and interceptions (7, first).

The Vikings are 7-1 SU (8-0 ATS) in their last eight road games.

Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (+3)

It seems like the bye week has been bad for the Philadelphia Eagles. The team hasn’t won since returning from the said rest, falling short to the Detroit Lions in Week 5, 24-23, and underperformed this past Sunday against the Washington Redskins, en route to a 27-20 loss.

The Eagles will now head back home for Week 7 looking to regain their winning form and avoid losing all the wheels in the Wentz Wagon. Sensational rookie QB Carson Wentz, who had a horrible Week 6 (11-for-22 for 179 yards, sacked five times), will have to better and quicker in his decision-making, he’ll be facing the Vikings’ top-ranked defense.

Philly’s two main receivers, Jordan Matthews and Nelson Agholor, will also have to step up in place of the ground game, which will be in for a big challenge running opposite a Vikings D that only gives up 78 rushing yards per outing.

Defensively, there’s also a lot of redeeming that needs to be done. They allowed the Redskins to gain 493 total yards and gave relatively unknown RB Matt Jones a career-high 135 rushing yards. It was far from the second-ranked run defense they had coming into the game.

The Eagles secondary should be laser-focused and take it upon themselves to give opposing QB Sam Bradford his first INT of the season.

Philly is 5-5 SU and ATS in its last 10 games at home.
