Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (13-3)
The Vikings have arrived in the Conference Championship Round, and it would not have been possible without the steady play of Case Keenum, who passed for 318 yards and the game-winning touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs in their 29-24 win over the Saints on Sunday.
The brilliant job by Minnesota’s defense should not be forgotten, however. Minnesota picked Saints quarterback Drew Brees twice and sacked him two times. Eagles quarterback Nick Foles is not anywhere close to Brees’ level, so the Vikings should be feeling confident of their chances of jamming Philly’s air attack next Sunday. The Vikings, after all, had the best scoring defense and total defense back in the regular season, limiting opponents to only 15.8 points and 275.9 total yards per game.
Minnesota has been great on the road this season, especially of late, as the Vikings are 5-1 SU/4-2 ATS in their last six away from home.
Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (13-3)
The Eagles finished the regular season with the best record in the NFC, but without Carson Wentz, they are going to be underdogs so long as they are still in contention for the Super Bowl. The Eagles already started defying the odds in the playoffs last Saturday, when they stunned the Atlanta Falcons at home with a 15-10 victory. Underdogs or not, it sure is a boost for the Eagles to own home field advantage in the playoffs. They have only lost once at home this season, going 7-1 SU and 5-3 ATS at home in the regular season. The Eagles also covered the spread in the win over Atlanta in the Divisional Round.
Nick Foles did just fine, too in that game, and though he did not throw a touchdown, he went 23-of-30 for 246 yards. The defense was also impressive, holding Atlanta’s high-scoring offense to a measly total of 10 points. That one was not a big surprise, though, given that the Eagles were fourth in the league in scoring defense in the regular season. Their rushing defense is the best in the NFL, too, which could be big problem for Minnesota, which is fourth in the NFL in rushing play percentage.
Writer’s Prediction:
Minnesota wins, 17-13.
