Have an awesome start to another week of betting. Below are five games that are the best baseball games to bet on today.
The Boston Red Sox are virtually out of contention for a postseason spot, and their continuing free fall only confirms the fact that the team has no plans of contending this year. But even if that is the case, the Red Sox can’t just be counted out against the Toronto Blue Jays tonight, largely because of who’s pitching for them, and how he’s fared at Rogers Centre. Find out more about that pitcher when you read our list of five best baseball games to bet on today.

New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals (7:00 PM ET)
Line: New York Yankees (+130) at Kansas City Royals (-140); total: 7.5 – see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]Despite a 3-1 loss to the Texas Rangers last night, the Royals are still on a remarkable tear, going 16-4 in the last 20 games. The Royals aim for another win as they start hotshot James Shields (12-6, 3.28 ERA) tonight against the visiting Yankees. The Royals are 4-0 in Shields’ last four starts. The Bronx Bombers, on the other hand, are on a mild streak themselves, going 4-0 in their last four games.
Writer’s prediction: The Royals return to the win column, as KC beats Yankees.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles (7:05 PM ET)
Line: Tampa Bay Rays (+122) at Baltimore Orioles (-132); total: 8.0 – see all MLB lines
After getting swept by the Chicago Cubs in a three-game series on the road, the Orioles make their way home, eager to get out of a funk. Baltimore is 6-1 in its last seven games at Camden Yards, and will start Chris Tillman (10-5, 3.55 ERA) later in the first game of the series against Tampa Bay.
Tillman will face the Rays’ Jake Odorizzi (9-10, 3.83 ERA), whose last four road starts have all resulted into wins for Tampa Bay. Odorizzi doesn’t give up too many runs. In fact, he’s only surrendered more than three earned runs only once in his last 10 starts. The under is 3-1-1 in his last five starts.
Writer’s prediction: Baltimore takes down the Rays.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (7:05 PM ET)
Line: St. Louis Cardinals (+124) at Pittsburgh Pirates (-134); total: 7.0 – see all MLB lines
Francisco Liriano (3-10, 4.18 ERA) doesn’t have a lot of reasons to be happy about this month, as he is 0-3 with a high ERA of 5.09 in four starts since the start of August. But a scheduled start against the Cardinals should lift up his spirits. After all, he is 3-0 with a .075 ERA against the Cards since 2011. Liriano will start opposite John Lackey (12-8, 3.88 ERA), who’s looking for his second win since being acquired by St. Louis from the Boston Red Sox. Since the trade, the Cards are 3-0 in Lackey’s last three starts at Busch Stadium.
Writer’s prediction: Pittsburgh wins.
Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7:07 PM ET)
Line: Boston Red Sox (+115) at Toronto Blue Jays (-125); total: 9.0 – see all MLB lines
The Blue Jays have been bad of late, going 3-7 in their last 10 games. Still, that’s not as ridiculous as the Red Sox’s eight-game losing streak. That said, Boston will come into this game with a decisive 9-1 record in Clay Buchholz’s (5-8, 5.94 ERA) last 10 starts at Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays, though, are 3-0 in their last three home games against the Red Sox. In addition, they’re 3-1 in J.A. Happ’s (8-8, 4.39 ERA) last four starts against Boston.
Writer’s prediction: The Red Sox stop losing skid, defeat Toronto.
Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants (10:15 PM ET)
Line: Colorado Rockies (+160) at San Francisco Giants (-180); total: 7.5 – see all MLB lines
Jake Peavy (3-12, 4.48 ERA) appeared to have gotten his groove back after a lengthy winless streak (0-12, 5.25 ERA) that spanned two months. He’s won two starts in a row now, and will be facing a Rockies lineup, which has been the best in the majors in batting average (.278) and slugging (.446), and second best in runs (602).
The Rockies – 3-0 in their last three meetings with San Francisco – will need to reflect that kind production at the plate if they are to beat the Giants, as they will send Tyler Matzek (2-9, 5.38 ERA) to the mound later. Matzek is 0-4 with an ERA of 7.89 in four starts, thus far this month.
Writer’s prediction: Peavy gets third straight win, as Giants trounce Colorado.
