New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians (7:00 PM ET)
Line: New York Yankees (+102) at Cleveland Indians (-112); total: 8.5 – see all MLB lines
Brandon McCarthy (3-10, 5.01 ERA) makes his debut in a pinstripes uniform tonight for the New York Yankees, who have failed to win three straight after losing to the Cleveland Indians, 5-3, on Tuesday. Before being traded to the Yankees, McCarthy had won each of his final two starts for the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitching 12.2 innings in total, while allowing three earned runs. The Indians, though, have won the last two times they’ve faced McCarthy, back when the pitcher was still an Oakland Athletic.
Writer’s Prediction: Cleveland wins and spoils McCarthy’s debut.
Washington Nationals vs. Baltimore Orioles (7:05 PM ET)
Line: Washington Nationals (+105) at Baltimore Orioles (-115); total: 9.0 – see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]Bud Norris (7-5, 3.62 ERA) has been spectacular in his recent starts, and he will anchor the balanced game of the Baltimore Orioles later when they open up a two-game set at home against the Washington Nationals. Norris has won all of his last four starts, posting an ERA of 2.55 in the process.
He’ll be met by Tanner Roark (7-6, 3.12 ERA), who’ll be dealing with this month’s second-best scoring team in the O’s. Roark, however, has a 1.03 ERA in four starts against American League teams this season. Moreover, the Nats have won twice in the last three road starts of Roark.
Writer’s Prediction: Baltimore gets the win.

Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Red Sox (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Chicago White Sox (-118) at Boston Red Sox (+108); total: 7.5 – see all MLB lines
Facing All-Star hopeful Chris Sale (8-1, 2.16 ERA) does not bode well for the free-falling Boston Red Sox, who have lost all of their last four games, and are 1-7 in their last eight overall. Sale was at his best in his last start, allowing only a run, while fanning 12 batters with no walks in a complete game 7-1 win of the White Sox over the Seattle Mariners. As for the Red Sox, their 8-3 loss to the White Sox last night was the third in four home games that the total has hit the over.
Writer’s Prediction: White Sox extend Boston’s slump.
Houston Astros at Texas Rangers (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Houston Astros (+170) at Texas Rangers (-200); total: 8.0 – see all MLB lines
The Houston Astros go for a sweep of the struggling Texas Rangers in the finale of their three-game series tonight. Houston experienced a bump in their offensive production of late, taking advantage of the Rangers’ sputtering pitching. The Astros outscored Texas in the first two games of the series, 20-10, and are now the fifth-best scoring team this month in the majors with 38 total runs.
They may not be able to have their way with Yu Darvish (8-4, 2.63 ERA) later though. Darvish is 1-0 with a 1.27 ERA and 33 strikeouts in his previous three starts against Houston. The Rangers are also 6-1 in Darvish’s last seven starts versus the Astros.
Writer’s Prediction: Houston remains hot, beats Rangers.
Oakland Athletics vs. San Francisco Giants (10:05 PM ET)
Line: Oakland Athletics (-107) at San Francisco Giants (-103); total: 7.0 – see all MLB lines
The good times keep on rolling for the current MLB Futures’ World Series top faves, Oakland A’s, after another dominant win over the San Francisco Giants. The A’s are now 6-0 in their last six games. Against the A’s offense that has scored 11 runs in the first two games of this four-game, home-and-away series, the Giants’ Matt Cain (1-7, 4.27 ERA)needs to be provided enough run support. Cain has gotten just one run in support in his last three starts. The Giants are 7-3 in their last 10 games after dropping the first two games of a series.
Writer’s Prediction: Oakland wins their third straight versus the Giants.
