MLB Picks and Predictions for Tuesday, June 10, 2014

Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles (7:05 PM ET)

Line: Boston Red Sox (+104) at Baltimore Orioles (-114); total: 9.0 – see all MLB lines

[sc:MLB240banner ]After stopping their five-game losing streak with a win at Detroit last Sunday, the Red Sox went back to their losing ways when they got blanked by the Baltimore Orioles in the first game of their series. The total has gone under in all of the Red Sox’s last four games at Camden Yards. Meanwhile, the O’s are 7-3 in Chris Tillman’s last 10 starts.

Writer’s prediction:  The Orioles bury the visiting Red Sox with runs.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds (7:10 PM ET)

Line: Los Angeles Dodgers (-102) at Cincinnati Reds (-108); total: 7.5 – see all MLB lines

Josh Beckett (3-3, 2.57 ERA) has been a victim of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ faulty offense over his last two starts, wherein he allowed just four earned runs and got a total of two runs of support. That may change tonight as the Dodgers have scored six runs in each of their last two games, including a 6-2 win against the Cincinnati Reds last night. The Reds, though, are 3-1 in their last four home games against the Dodgers.

Writer’s prediction: The Dodgers give the run support to Josh Beckett deserves in a win over Cincy.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Tampa Bay Rays (7:10 PM ET)

Line: St. Louis Cardinals (-140) at Tampa Bay Rays (+130); total: 7.0 – see all MLB lines

Adam Wainwright, St. Louis Cardinals, MLB

The struggling Tampa Bay Rays have been shut out in back-to-back games, and their troubles are likely to continue as they run into Adam Wainwright (8-3, 2.31 ERA) and the rest of the St. Louis Cardinals tonight. The Cards hushed the potent offense of the Toronto Blue Jays, whom they shutout in the last two games of their series. The Cards are 5-1 in Wainwright’s last four starts. Meanwhile, the over is 5-1 in the last four home starts of Jake Odorizzi.

Writer’s prediction:  Adam Wainwright makes life miserable for the Rays. Cards win third straight.

Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox (8:10 PM ET)

Line: Detroit Tigers (-130) at Chicago White Sox (+120); total: 8.0see all MLB lines

Justin Verlander (6-5, 4.19 ERA) has been uncharacteristically bad in his last four starts, giving up 19 runs during that stretch. However, he’s a solid 13-3 with a 2.67 ERA in his last 17 starting gigs against the Chicago White Sox. The reigning American League champion Tigers are 3-1 in their last four games versus the White Sox. Chicago on the other hand won the first game of this series, 6-5, and has won its last two games at U.S. Cellular Field.

Writer’s prediction: Justin Verlander breaks out of slump and blanks White Sox in a Detroit win.

New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners (10:10 PM ET)

Line: New York Yankees at Seattle Mariners see all MLB lines

The New York Yankees are coming off back-to-back losses, and their offense will be in tough tonight as they’ll go up against Hisashi Iwakuma (4-2, 2.66 ERA). Nevertheless, the Yankees have been successful at Safeco Field, having won four of their last five trips to Seattle. The Mariners are 6-4 in the last 10 starts of Iwakuma.

Writer’s prediction: The Yankees get first win of the season at Safeco Field.
