Hoping to end their nine-game road trip with a win, the Boston Red Sox start Rubby De La Rosa (1-1, 2.84 ERA) tonight versus the Baltimore Orioles. After its 1-0 win last night against the O’s, Boston improved to 3-1 in their last four games at Camden Yards. Starting opposite De La Rosa is Wei-Yin Chen (6-2, 4.13 ERA). The O’s are 3-1 in the last four starts of the Taiwanese pitcher.
Writer’s Prediction: De La Rosa pitches the Red Sox to a win.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Dodgers (+108) at Cincinnati Reds (-118); total: 7.0 – see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]A scintillating pitching matchup is in the offing tonight as the Los Angeles’ Dodgers’ Hyun-jin Ryu (7-2, 3.08 ERA) matches up against erstwhile National League ERA king, Johnny Cueto (5-5, 1.97 ERA) of the Cincinnati Reds. The Dodgers, who have scored six runs in each of their last three games, are 4-0 in Ryu’s last four road starts. The Reds on the other hand are 4-1 in the Cueto’s last five starts at the Great American Ball Park.
Writer’s Prediction: A stout offense gets the Dodgers past Cincinnati.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Tampa Bay Rays (7:10 PM ET)
Line: St. Louis Cardinals (-133) at Tampa Bay Rays (+123); total: 7.0 – see all MLB lines
The Tampa Bay Rays have not scored in three straight games, the latest being a 1-0 loss in the first game of the series against the St. Louis Cardinals. It was the fourth time the total went under in the Rays’ last five home games. Their offensive futility may end tonight, though, as they face Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (4-4, 2.61 ERA). The Cards are 0-7 in all of Wacha’s last seven road starts.
Writer’s Prediction: The Rays finally end their drought with a victory over the Cards.
Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox (8:10 PM ET)
Line: Detroit Tigers (-134) at Chicago White Sox (+124); total: 9.0 – see all MLB lines
Barring any more weather problems, Justin Verlander will have his shot at reviving his plummeting numbers. The Detroit ace is 6-5, with a 4.19 ERA thus far on the season, and has given up 19 runs in his last four starts. Nevertheless, Verlander is a solid 13-3 with a 2.67 ERA in his last 17 starting gigs against the White Sox. Moreover, the Tigers are 3-1 in their last four games against the White Sox. Meanwhile, Chicago has won its last two home games, including a 6-5 victory in the first game of this series.
Writer’s Prediction: Justin Verlander stops his slump and shuts out the White Sox in a Detroit win.
New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners (10:10 PM ET)
Line: New York Yankees (-170) at Seattle Mariners (+150); total: 6.5 – see all MLB lines
The New York Yankees have been spoiled by Masahiro Tanaka (9-1, 2.02 ERA), who has given the Bronx Bombers a win in all but one of this 10 starts. The current American League ERA leader could also tie Mark Buehrle’s majors-leading 10 wins with a victory tonight against the Seattle Mariners. However, the Mariners’ Chris Young (5-3, 3.42 ERA) should be equally tough on the Yankees’ batters, as Seattle is 4-0 in his last four home starts.
Writer’s Prediction: Backed by a better offense, Chris Young and the Mariners hold on to beat the Yankees.
