Monday Night Football Odds: Bears vs. Packers

Green Bay could start to break away from the rest of the NFC North with a win over the hobbling Bears. Meanwhile, Chicago looks to put a clamp on their six-game losing streak versus the Packers by way of an upset.

Betting on the Chicago Bears:

Health troubles continue to plague the Bears who lost QB Jay Cutler to a groin injury he suffered in Chicago’s 45-41 loss to the Redskins in Week 7. It was the latest letdown for Chicago, who have dropped three of their last four games – a disappointing development given that the Bears opened up their season 3-0 SU. [sc:NFL240banner ]

For now, coach Marc Trestman will have to pin the quarterbacking duties to backup Josh McCown. The 11-year veteran will be making just his second start against Green Bay in his career. The last time he started versus the Packers, McCown went 19-of-28 for 242 yards with a pair of TDs in a 35-21 Bears loss back in 2011.

McCown takes over a capable offense that knows how to deliver the points. Chicago is the second best scoring team in the NFL, recording an average of 30.4 points per game. That and a suspect defense that allows opponents to rack up 29.4 points per game partly explain how the Bears have gone OVER in the totals in six of their seven games this season.

Betting on the Green Bay Packers:

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers, NFL

Aaron Rodgers is making it seem like the Packers aren’t being bugged by injuries. Despite missing WR Randall Cobb, TE Jermichael Finley, and LB Brad Jones, Rodgers still managed to achieve a level of greatness in the Packers’ last game, a 44-21 win over Minnesota, by finishing 24-of-29 for 285 yards with two TDs.

Running back Eddie Lacy, who leads NFL rookies in rushing yards, blistered through the brittle Vikings rush defense with 29 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown. Lacy and James Starks were instrumental in the Packers’ strong ground game that averages 141.4 rushing yards per game. The pair can turn on the boosters anew in Lambeau Field in Week 9 as the visiting Bears have an injury-depleted defense.

The Packers set their sights on a possible fifth straight win when they host their hurting rival, Chicago. A win against the Bears could free Green Bay from the tangle at the top of the NFC North Division where they are only half-a-game ahead of the Lions.

Green Bay has beaten the Bears in their last six meetings. They’re also 5-0 ATS in their last five against Chicago.
