Betting on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (TBA)
It’s about to get tougher for the Cornhuskers, who lost to No. 10 Creighton on Wednesday, 77-62. Having lost four of their last five, the Cornhuskers will take on next No. 3 Kansas in Lawrence, nonetheless.
Against the Bluejays, Nebraska’s bad offense was ill again. Just 32.4 percent of the Cornhuskers fell in, including a pathetic 3-for-22 line from the three-point area. They will have to rotate the ball better and find higher percentage shots against a Kansas team that will likely not respect Nebraska’s perimeter game, one that shoots just 28.8% from beyond the arc and just 34.9% on two-point jumpers. Nebraska is 291st in Division I ball with 68.3 PPG.
That said, the Cornhuskers actually trailed by just a point at the half against Creighton before the wheels on their offense came off. It’s going to be a tall task containing Kansas’ offense, particularly its guards, but slowing down the game’s pace could work in the Cornhuskers’’ favor.
Tai Webster, who scored 20 points in the Creighton game, paces the team in scoring with 17.2 PPG. He should get help from Ed Morrow, who averages a near double-double of 10.1 PPG and 8.1 RPG.
Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (TBA)
Kansas went merciless on Tuesday, slaying the UMKC Kangaroos, 105-62. As usual, the Jayhawks’ holy trinity of guards led the way for the Jayhawks, who’ll come into this Saturday’s contest riding an eight-game win streak.
Frank Mason III scored 30 points, freshman Josh Jackson added 19, and Devonte Graham poured in 18 in the win over the Kangaroos, who looked nothing more than mere canon fodders for Bill Self’s boys. Kansas went bonkers from the outside against UMKC, knocking down 15 treys on 27 attempts.
Expect the Jayhawks to go ballistic again from the long range against Nebraska’s defense that allows opponents to launch 19.5 threes per game. Kansas is making 9.3 triples each contest on a very efficient 42.9% shooting, seventh in the nation.
Kansas should also be able to gash repeatedly Nebraska’s interior defense that lets opponents make 50.0% of their shots at the rim, among the highest in Division I.
Writer’s Prediction
Kansas wins, 89-70.
