Writer’s Pick: New York Giants (-2.5)

Betting on the New York Giants (-2.5)

Sunday’s 27-23 win over the Baltimore Ravens was a big sigh of relief for the Giants. It brought the team a lot of confidence back as it snapped an ugly three-game skid. QB Eli Manning threw for 406 yards and three touchdowns, while receiver Odell Beckham had a career-high 222 receiving yards and two scores, one of which was a go-ahead 66-yard TD with only 1:24 left.

The G-Men will now try to carry all the momentum they had in the win against their Week 7 opponent, Los Angeles Rams. With the big performance, expect Manning to be more comfortable than he was in previous games, he should be able to exceed his 289 passing yards per game average.

If the QB finds his rhythm early, the London crowd will be treated with his fourth 350-plus passing yard game of the year. Explosive wideouts Victor Cruz and Sterling Shepard will join Beckham in helping Manning pile up points and yardage on the Rams.

Defensively, the biggest challenge will be getting to the quarterback. It’s been one of the weakest points of the Giants this season, as they are at the bottom of the league in interceptions (two) and sacks (six). The pass defense, which gives up 267 yards every contest, also needs improvement.

The Gianst are 4-6 SU (3-5-2 ATS) in their last 10 games.

Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (+2.5)

Rams QB Case Keenum had a heck of a game in their 31-28 loss to the Lions Sunday, going 27-for-32 (84 percent) for 321 yards and three TDs. It was his highest completion percentage and second-highest total passing yards in a single-game.

The QB should have an extra oomph in his step, but he’ll also need another big night from Kenny Britt, the most reliable and effective receiver in the Rams roster. The veteran wideout is leading his team in receptions (30), receiving yards (496), and receiving yards per game (83). Struggling RB Todd Gurley, meanwhile…. is still struggling, as he is stuck in a severely-lower-than-expected 58 yards per game and a pitiful 2.9 yards per carry.

Currently ranked on the bottom teens, the Rams pass defense will have to do better against the Giants’ dangerous West Coast offense. It’s good that the D is recording six pass deflections per game, but they should know that it can’t make up for the yards they are giving up.

On the ground, however, their chances should be good, the Giants have no real threat on the backfield and are only averaging 53 rushing yards in the past three weeks.

The Rams are 6-4 SU and ATS in their last 10 games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Giants (2.5) win, 28-23.
