New York Giants vs. Tennessee Titans Predictions, Odds, Picks and Betting Preview – December 7, 2014

The New York Giants-Tennessee Titans clash is a challenging one not only for both teams but for football fans as well. It takes a superior class of fandom to go watch this game between two teams, who are on a lengthy tailspin, not to mention them being out of playoff contention. The Giants (3-9) are on a seven-game skid, while the Titans (2-10) have lost all of their last six games. Betting on the New York Giants

Losing to teams with winning records is one thing. Losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars, meanwhile, is an entirely different story. Such was the case for the Giants, who extended their losing streak to seven games following a 25-24 loss at the hands of the Jaguars.

[sc:NFL240banner ]Making the loss an even tougher one to swallow for the Giants was the fact that they were up by 21 points heading into the third quarter before proceeding to succumb to the Jaguars’ ferocious rally. The collapse was largely caused by the Giants themselves, particularly on offense. Turnovers were a big problem for the Giants in that game as they committed three turnovers (all fumbles lost) which Jacksonville turned into two touchdown scores. The Giants are 27th in the NFL in turnover differential with a -7 clip.

The Titans aren’t a particularly solid defensive team, but New York’ offense seems to have the ingredients to make pedestrian defense look like world-beaters on any given moment.  For one, Eli Manning is fourth in the league in interceptions thrown with 12. He’s also one of the most frequent customers of opposing teams’ pass rush, ranking 10th in sacks with 26.

Perhaps the best option for the Giants on offense on Sunday is to give its backfield more touches. The Titans are by far the worst defensive team against the rush, allowing opponents to rack up 141.5 rushing yards per game.

The Giants have the 1-2 combo of Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams, who lead the team with 74.8 and 32.8 rushing yards per game, respectively.

Jennings suffered an ankle injury against Jacksonville and did not return. However, it was reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the running back is “unlikely to miss time.”

The over is 3-0 in the Giants’ last three games away from MetLife Stadium.

Betting on the Tennessee Titans

Zach Mettenberger

There are a lot of reasons why the Titans are a mess this season and their defense is one of them. For the second game in a row, the Titans surrendered at least 43 points to their opponents, as they lost to the Houston Texans last Sunday, 45-21.

Tennessee performed so bad on the defensive end against the Texans that quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick nearly tied the NFL season record for most touchdowns in a single game. The lack of pressure from the pass rush and a bumbling secondary allowed Fitzpatrick to throw for 358 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions.

If there’s any positive takeaway from that game for the Titans, at least defensively, it’s that they were able to limit the run-centric Texans down to only 99 rushing yards. That should serve as a confidence-booster for the Titans when they go up against New York on Sunday.

On offense, the Titans will have rookie Zach Mettenberger as the starter, despite suffering a shoulder injury in the Houston game. Mettenberger completed 13 of 19 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown with an interception before leaving the game and being replaced by Jake Locker. Locker then proceeded to throw for 91 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.

Tennessee’s offensive line, meanwhile, have to deal with the Giants’ pass rush that recorded seven sacks against the Jaguars last Sunday. The Titans are 23rd in the league in quarterback sack percentage with 8.05%.

The Titans are 5-0 ATS in their last five meetings against New York.

Writer’s Prediction

The Giants win, 33-28.
