Starters: Noah Syndergaard (5-1, 2.97 ERA) vs. Domingo German (2-5, 5.49 ERA)

Pitching:

Syndergaard returned from a stint on the disabled list and allowed just one earned run on seven hits in five innings of a 4-2 home win over the slumping Nationals on Jul. 13.. Syndergaard is 5-1 with a 2.97 ERA in his starts this year. German picked up a loss in his last start, giving up six earned runs on six hits and issued four walks in only four innings of a 6-5 road loss to Cleveland on Jul. 13. German allowed three earned runs on five hits in six innings of a 4-3 win over the Mets on Jul. 9.

Hitting:

  • The current Yankees’ roster is 3-for-25 vs. Syndergaard.
  • The current Mets’ roster is 5-for-21 with two homers vs. German.

Game 2, Saturday, July 21, 1:05PM

Starters: Steven Matz (4-7, 3.38 ERA) vs. Sonny Gray (6-7, 5.46 ERA)

Pitching:

Matz will look to get his first win in the second half of the season. Matz has a 2.91 ERA in his last 13 first-half starts. He is 1-2 with a 2.00 ERA in his last three starts. He surrendered three earned runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings of a 5-4 home loss to Washington on Jul. 12. Gray had a rare solid outing on Jul. 11 when he pitched six scoreless innings to go with eight strikeouts in a 9-0 road in Baltimore.

Hitting:

  • Giancarlo Stanton is 4-for-12 with two homers vs. Matz.
  • Jose Bautista is 6-for-20 with a homer vs. Gray.

Writer’s Prediction:

Mets win, 5-3.


Game 3, Sunday, July 22, 8:08PM

Starters: Jacob de Grom (5-4, 1.68 ERA) vs. Masahiro Tanaka (7-2, 4.54 ERA)

Pitching:

DeGrom returns from the All-Star break to look for his first win post the midseason rest. In his last regular season start, he tossed 8.0 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in a 3-0 home win over Philly on Jul. 11. Tanaka has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last three starts. That includes a July 15 start in Cleveland wherein Tanaka yielded two earned runs on six hits in 6.1 innings on the mound. He is 0-0 with a 3.45 ERA in his last three starts.

Hitting:

  • Giancarlo Stanton is 9-for-25 with four homers vs. deGrom.
  • Jose Bautista is 10-for-39 with two homers vs. Tanaka.

Writer’s Prediction:

Yankees win, 4-3.
