Betting on the New York Yankees

Wins have been difficult to achieve for Michael Pineda for quite some time now. Pineda (6-11, 4.89 ERA) hopes to end his eight-start winless streak today, as he takes on the Blue Jays in Game 2 of this four-game series at Rogers Centre.

Pineda was solid in his last start despite not earning the W, yielding two earned runs on five hits while striking out 11 in 5.1 innings of a 5-3 victory over the Rays. He also pitched well the last time he took on Toronto, tossing five scoreless innings and giving up just four hits before the Blue Jays destroyed the Yankees’ bullpen in a 12-6 loss at home.

Backing Pineda is the Yankees’ offense that has a collective career batting average of .274 against Toronto starter Marco Estrada. Starling Castro for one is 13-for-32 (.406) with four doubles off Estrada. Rookie Gary Sanchez, meanwhile, wants to showcase his power anew in this matchup, as he is 2-for-2 (both homers) against the Blue Jays’ righty.

Betting on the Toronto Blue Jays

Marco Estrada (9-9, 3.62 ERA)gets the ball for Toronto today, hoping he can build on the momentum he got from his last start.

Estrada hushed Seattle’s bats last week, tossing seven scoreless frames and allowing just one hit, while striking out eight Mariners in a 3-2 win. It was Estrada’s first quality start since April 29, however, so he has to show more of the same before the Blue Jays can totally feel confident with him. Estrada was on the mound when the Blue Jays pummeled the Yankees on August 16, 12-6. He was lucky to be a recipient of a healthy dose of run support, as he allowed five earned runs on five hits in just four innings of action.

Toronto’s offense is looking to pick on Pineda, who hasn’t been a great pitcher when away from the Bronx. Pineda is just 2-7 with a 5.36 ERA in 15 road starts thus far this season. That said, the Blue Jays are just .210 as a team against Pineda. Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson have a combined 4-for-37 batting line opposite the Yankees’ hurler.
