[sc:NFL240banner ]Week 4 is where our experts will truly be put to the test; only one game on the slate received a unanimous vote of confidence for a favored team, and that’s the Cincinnati Bengals over the Kansas City Chiefs. In fact, not only did the four experts found on our chart above pick Cincinnati, but all eight contributors from CBS Sports’ expert panel did so as well.
In spite of Kansas City’s Alex Smith having recently broken the team’s infamous streak of not having thrown a touchdown pass to a wide receiver, and that the team still managed to put up 28 points as well in Lambeau on Monday Night Football, everybody on CBS is riding high on the Bengals this season.
Cincy has won its last three games SU/ATS, the team is currently atop the extremely volatile AFC North, and Andy Dalton is nearly invincible in games where the kickoff is at 1:00 PM. Oh, and wide receiver AJ Green is coming off of a career-high 227-yard game with two TDs on 10 receptions this past Sunday, so expect the Dalton-Green connection to rip apart KC’s secondary just like what Rodgers did this past Monday night.
Bleacher Report
Game | Bleacher Report |
---|---|
Ravens @ Steelers | Ravens |
Jets @ Dolphins | Jets |
Panthers @ Buccaneers | Panthers |
Giants @ Bills | Bills |
Raiders @ Bears | Raiders |
Texans @ Falcons | Falcons |
Jaguars @ Colts | Colts |
Chiefs @ Bengals | Bengals |
Eagles @ Redskins | Redskins |
Browns @ Chargers | Chargers |
Vikings @ Broncos | Broncos |
Rams @ Cardinals | Cardinals |
Packers @ 49ers | Packers |
Cowboys @ Saints | Saints |
Lions @ Seahawks | Seahawks |
Sticking with the wild AFC North, Bleacher Report confidently chose the Baltimore Ravens to prevail over the streaking Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though Baltimore is still winless and have shamefully put up an 0-3 start for the first time in franchise history, Pittsburgh will likely be without Ben Roethlisberger for Thursday night’s game and his absence makes all the difference towards the Ravens’ odds of notching their first ‘W’ of the year.
Also, the past results say a lot about just how unpredictable these Ravens-Steelers clashes have been: Baltimore is 6-4 straight-up and 4-5-1 against Pittsburgh for the past ten games.
Over in B/R’s other picks for the week, the site pulls no punches in selecting teams with high-powered offenses taking on middling or mediocre squads, even with the lines set relatively high. Green Bay, Arizona, Indianapolis, Denver and San Diego are all favored to overcome their tough odds and win by more than just a touchdown over San Francisco, St. Louis, Jacksonville, Minnesota and Cleveland, respectively.

Game | Frank Doyle |
---|---|
Ravens @ Steelers | Steelers |
Jets @ Dolphins | Jets |
Panthers @ Buccaneers | Panthers |
Giants @ Bills | Bills |
Raiders @ Bears | Bears |
Texans @ Falcons | Falcons |
Jaguars @ Colts | Jaguars |
Chiefs @ Bengals | Bengals |
Eagles @ Redskins | Redskins |
Browns @ Chargers | Browns |
Vikings @ Broncos | Broncos |
Rams @ Cardinals | Cardinals |
Packers @ 49ers | 49ers |
Cowboys @ Saints | N/A |
Lions @ Seahawks | Lions |
Frank Doyle of Sports Interaction tips his scale in Detroit’s favor given the imposing line that was set for the Lions-Seahawks game on Monday night.
Doyle believes that the Lions have been mostly unlucky for the first three games and that the team is starting to get its mojo back slowly but surely. And although the game will be played in Seattle and that Russell Wilson and Jimmy Graham are starting to get on the same page on offense, Detroit won’t go down easily with its own potent combo of Matthew Stafford and Calvin “Megatron” Johnson in the passing game.
The site also has a pair of questionable choices, namely in picking the Redskins over the Eagles and Chicago prevailing at home against Oakland. The former game could go either way, as Chip Kelly’s sputtering offense and Dan Snyder’s team’s inability to stay consistent on an annual basis will pretty much offset each other.
However, picking the winless Bears with poor Jimmy Clausen (just 9-of-19 for 67 passing yards in Week 3) as the team’s starting QB over the visiting surging Raiders might be a shot in the dark in our own opinion. Then again, maybe it was Oakland’s 0-9 road record prior to last Sunday’s win in Cleveland *snicker* was enough for Doyle to buy in on struggling Chicago instead.
