Betting on Honduras

2016-Summer-Olympics---News-Banners-250x130-V1

Honduras must still be picking their own pieces following a 6-0 thrashing of a loss at the hands of Brazil in the semifinals.

A blowout loss like that isn’t in any way easy to recover from but the show must go on for the Honduras, who’ll try to salvage some measure of respect as they lock horns with Nigeria in the bronze medal match this Saturday.

Honduras have to forget that Brazil game and focus on starting the match strong against Nigeria. They can draw strength from their admirable job of reaching this far despite struggling in group play in which they won against Algeria, lost to Portugal, and drew with Argentina.

Still, that draw with the superpower Argentina was a commendable one for a team like Honduras, ranked 84th in the world by FIFA.

Betting on Nigeria

Nigeria won’t have gold medals around their necks when they get home after the Olympics, but bronze medals aren’t too shabby to have either. That’s the plan for the Super Eagles this Saturday in Rio de Janeiro.

Nigeria’s gold medals dreams eroded when they lost to Germany in the semis, 2-0. The good thing for Nigeria is that they’ll be facing a rather more demoralized Honduras side. As mentioned earlier, Honduras got a severe whiplashing at the hands of Brazil and Nigeria should start strong to snuff any remaining fight out of the Nigerians.

Oghenekaro Etebo is Nigeria’s top scorer with four goals, though all of those came during a wild 5-4 win over Japan in the opener.

Writer’s Prediction

Nigeria wins, 4-2.
