Betting on the Oakland Raiders (+1.5)

Head coach Jack Del Rio got an early Christmas present when the Oakland Raiders picked up the 33-16 road win against the Jaguars, his former team, on Sunday. The victory also allowed the Raiders to improve to 5-2, currently the second-best record in the AFC, for the first time since 2001 and claim the franchise’s first win in three trips to Jacksonville.

Oakland received a balanced effort from its offense and defense during that game. Derek Carr threw for 317 yards and a touchdown; Latavius Murray delivered a pair of running touchdowns in his return from a toe injury; Michael Crabtree secured eight passes for 96 yards; and Sebastian Janikowski converted four of his five field goals.

Their defense, surprisingly, was primarily the unit that stood out the most, though. The Raiders forced the Jags to go 4-of-13 on third down conversions and commit three turnovers, two of which were INTs. Now the question is: Can Del Rio’s troops do this on a consistent basis, or at least do so again in this weekend’s road game versus the Bucs?

Tampa Bay’s won its last two games, including a win over a Cam Newton-less Panthers club. Jameis Winston, however, hasn’t exactly been on-point with his passes, having already nine interceptions across his name this season. Hence, the Raiders should see a number opportunities again to turn defense into more points.

The Raiders are also 4-0 SU and ATS on the road this year.

Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-1.5)

Based on yesterday’s 34-17 win against San Francisco, the offense looks pretty lethal right now for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jameis Winston, despite seeing his team trail 14-0 by the end of the opening period, responded emphatically with a 27-0 run to eventually seal the win. He finished with 269 passing yards and three touchdown passes, two of which were hauled in by Mike Evans, who accounted for 96 yards receiving in total.

The Bucs’ offense also benefited from another big-time output from Jacquizz Rodgers. He certainly took away some of the pressure of Winston, as the 26-year-old back from Oregon State bullied his way to 154 yards on 26 carries. That’s the second-consecutive game that Rodgers’ amassed more than 100 yards this season.

Rodgers should continue seeing a heavy workload and make life easier for Winston as long as Doug Martin remains sidelined. And if that’s indeed the case, Quizz will likely be in store for an even bigger outing against an inconsistent Oakland defense that’s surrendering 430.4 total yards per contest, the worst in the NFL today.

Tampa Bay is 3-7 SU and ATS in its last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Tampa Bay (-1.5) wins, 27-24.
