Betting on the Oklahoma City Thunder (31-24)
Point Spread: +5
OKC couldn’t unleash enough thunder to spoil Kevin Durant’s return to Oklahoma City last Saturday night. The Thunder lost to the league-leading Warriors, 130-114, while wasting a robust effort from Russell Westbrook, who had a game-high 47 points, 11 rebounds; eight assists and a costly 11 turnovers.
Victor Oladipo aided his backcourt partner with 20 points, and is now averaging 20.2 point in his last four contests. But again, OKC’s errors—19 turnovers in total—didn’t help as those mistakes turned into 24 Golden State points.
Moreover, the Thunder defense had too much on its plate with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Durant clicking from all cylinders. The three scored 26 or more points each.
Tonight’s road game against Washington should result to a similar loss if OKC doesn’t improve defensively. The Wizards have scored at least 100 points in their last 20 games.
The Thunder, though, have won the last five games in this series, including a 126-115 overtime win on Nov. 30.
Betting on the Washington Wizards (32-21)
Point Spread: -5
The Wizards are playing spectacular basketball as of this writing. They’re second in the league with a 16-5 record since Jan. 1. And during this stretch, the team has shown a lot of maturity by winning games even when things don’t go as planned.
Friday’s game versus the Pacers was an example of that, as Washington trailed at the intermission before eventually seizing the 112-107 win behind John Wall’s excellent night. He finished with 26 points and 14 assists, including eight of his club’s final nine points.
Marcus Morris and Bradley Beal pitched in 26 and 20 points, respectively, to support their All-Star point guard, who is averaging 25.6 points in the last five outings. Wall, however, was held to 15 points on 6-of-20 shooting in this season’s first encounter with OKC.
Beal and Morris will have to continue putting up solid numbers in case that happens again. The two are racking up 43.2 points combined in this month of February.
Writer’s Prediction
Wizards (-5) win a nail-biter, 110-106.
