Betting on Ottawa Redblacks (2-4)
The Redblacks are on a free fall. They started the season nicely with back-to-back wins, but since emerging from a Week 3 bye, the Redblacks have gone 0-4 SU. Their latest loss was against the Calgary Stampeders, 17-16, at home. That stretch also features their 36-10 home loss to Montreal back in Week 5. Ottawa could barely get anything going on offense against the Stampeders. Ottawa only had 218 total yards to 474 by Calgary. Redblacks quarterback Jonathon Jennings passed for 125 yards and a touchdown on 15-for-18 completions, but also threw a couple of interceptions. Jennings should face a lighter defense in the rematch with Montreal, which is last in the CFL against the pass, as the Alouettes are last overall with 351.8 passing yards allowed per game. Jennings, however, could be returning to his backup role to Dominique Davis, who’s lost his starting gig in the last two games. In the first meeting with Montreal, Davis had 268 passing yards (23/37) with zero touchdowns and an interception.
The under is 4-1 in the Redblacks’ last five road games.
Betting on Montreal Alouettes (3-2)
It’s a different story for Montreal. Unlike Ottawa, the Alouettes stumbled right out of the gate with two straight losses before going on a three-game win streak, which they will bring into their matchup at home with Ottawa. Montreal scored a huge 20-10 home win over the Edmonton Eskimos in Week 6, with quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. passing for 191 yards and a touchdown with no interception on 15-for-22 completions. He also added 44 rushing yards on seven carries. The Alouettes are capitalizing on their ability to run the ball, especially with a dual-threat quarterback in Adams. In fact, Montreal is tops in the CFL with 161.0 rushing yards per game. Back in their win over Ottawa, Adams went berserk and threw for 327 passing yards and two touchdowns with no picks thrown and also added 41 rushing yards and two rushing scores. Adams could wreak havoc again against Ottawa which is only seventh in the league with 30.3 points given up per game.
The Alouettes are 5-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
