The last time the John Deere Classic was held was in 2019. That year, South African Dylan Frittelli won his first-ever PGA TOUR event by scoring a 21-under 263 at the end of the tournament. It was the third year in a row in which the top purse was worth at least $1 million, as he took home a sum of $1.08 million. Prior to that, Michael Him won the event in 2018 and cashed in $1.044 million, while Bryson DeChambeau pocketed $1.008 million for his win in 2017. Those were way bigger than what the inaugural winner of this tournament got in 1971 when Dean Beman topped the field and won $5,000. At the time, the event was still known as the Quad Cities Open and the total purse was just $25,000.
