Detroit will see a champion get crowned this coming weekend, at least on the golf course, as some of the world’s top golfers troop to the Detroit Golf Club for the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic. The action begins this Thursday, so now is a good time for bettors to check out a few favorites, sleepers, and long shots. Register below to make your picks and read on for the final prediction.
DeChambeau is having quite a great stretch since the resumption of the PGA Tour. After finishing with a T3 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, DeChambeau had a T8 at the RBC Heritage, then went T6 over the weekend at the Travelers Championship. DeChambeau now has seven top 10s in 10 starts this season, missing just one cut. DeChambeau is ninth this season with 72.08 greens in regulation percentage and eighth in birdie average (4.42).
Simpson skipped the Travelers Championship, a week after winning the RBC Heritage, due to coronavirus concerns of a family member. But now that Simpson has cleared all COVID-19 tests, he’s all set to make a return to the course, becoming the highest-ranked player on the Rocket Mortgage field. Simpson, who’s no. 6 in the world rankings, has two wins on the season with five top 10s in seven starts. He’s first this season both in terms of birdie average (4.92) and scoring average (68.66).
Hatton didn’t take part in the Travelers Championship, which would have been a chance for him to make another strong finish. Hatton had a T3 at Harbour Town and a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational back in March. Hatton has four top 10s in five starts this season. Hatton is no. 1 on the Tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green and in strokes gained: approach the green.
After missing the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Na rebounded with a fifth-place finish at the Travelers Championship last week. Na has three top 10s, including a win at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open back in October of 2019.
Redman has gotten better in each of his past three starts. After a T58 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, he settled for a T21 at the RBC Heritage, and almost cracked the top 10 with a T11 at the Travelers Championship. He’s made the cut in all three tournaments since the season resumed, and could make another great start this week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, wherein he finished runner-up last year.
Dufner has missed the cut eight times in 13 starts this season, and he’s yet to crack the top 25. Since the restart of the season, Dufner has had a solo 67th-place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge and a T41 at the RBC Heritage.
Wallace has missed the cut twice over his last three starts and four times in seven PGA Tour events he’s played in this season. If anything, he’s 23rd on the Tour in driving distance (307.1).
