FAVORITES
Jon Rahm (odds)
Don’t act like you’re surprised to see Rahm’s name here. The world’s No. 1 player is virtually an automatic favorite in any tournament. He has made the cut in all four PGA TOUR events this season. He has yet to win this campaign, but he’s already got a couple of top 10s, including a runner-up finish in the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Justin Thomas (odds)
Thomas is also having a strong start to the PGA TOUR season, as he’s a perfect 4 of 4, thus far. His best finish this season thus far was a solo third-place finish in THE CJ CUP @ SUMMIT back in October. He had consecutive T5s in the Hero Challenge and in the Sentry Tournament of Champions before a T20 in the Farmers Insurance Open. He’s got two top 3s in seven starts at TPC Scottsdale.
Webb Simpson (odds)
Simpson is also up there with the favorites, given his track record at TPC Scottsdale. The 36-year-old Simpson is 9 of 11 in his career at the said course and he’s also won there, topping the field in the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open. Overall, Simpson has five top 10s and seven top 25s in his career at TPC Scottsdale.
HIGH-VALUE SLEEPERS
Bubba Watson (odds)
Although he has yet to make a start in the 2021-22 PGA TOUR season, Watson’s resume at TPC Scottsdale is more than enough for him to register on bettors’ radars. Watson has made 15 starts there and has come away with 10 top 25s, six top 10s, and a couple of runner-up finishes. He has cracked the top four in two of his last three starts at TPC Scottsdale.
Gary Woodland (odds)
Woodland is struggling to find consistency this season, but he’s not someone you should overlook in the upcoming 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open. For one, he’s won at TPC Scottsdale before when he took home the grand prize worth $1.242 million in the 2018 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
LONG SHOTS
Chesson Hadley (odds)
Ranked 345th in the world, Hadley will look to snap his streak of six missed cuts in a PGA TOUR event when he tees off this week at TPC Scottsdale, where he has cracked the top five once in five starts there, dating back to 2015.
Scott Piercy (odds)
Piercy has gone 5 of 9 this season, with two top 25s. His best finish to date this season is a T11 in the Fortinet Championship back in September. But here’s what’s important to know baout Piercy – he has four top 10s in 12 starts at TPC Scottsdale.
Writer’s Prediction
Jon Rahm wins the 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
