Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (+6)

Well… thank God the Eagles got back on the winning track, ’cause we all know there were only a few pieces left in the Wentz Wagon prior to Sunday’s game. Don’t get too excited again, though. At 5-4, the team has loads of work to do and is still far from even getting a sniff of a playoff spot.

In the 24-15 victory over the Falcons, Carson Wentz passed for 231 yards, but it was the run game (208 yards and two TDs) and the defense (two sacks, one interception, six QB hits, and five pass deflections) that did the most damage.

In yet another “Battle of the Birds,” this time with the Seahawks, Wentz and his crew should know that the defense they are about to face are miles ahead from what the Falcons offered (the Seahawks allow the eight fewest total yards in the league). The rookie QB will have to be ready to scramble and also be quicker in his decisions.

The Eagles aerial attack will likely include Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, and Zach Ertz, who collectively have nine games with 50-plus yards this season. For the ground game, they’ll likely split the carries of Ryan Matthews, who had 100-plus yards and two rushing scores last week, and pass-catching back Darren Sproles (304 rushing yards and 298 receiving yards this season).

Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (-6)

The Seahawks had some revenge over Super Bowl 49 opponents New England Patriots, beating them 31-24. Pats QB Tom Brady didn’t have a passing touchdown and was picked once (both firsts this season).

Russell Wilson had one of his finest games in a while, throwing for 348 yards and three TDs. The fifth-year QB had tons of help from his supporting cast too, as Doug Baldwin had six catches for 59 yards, and was the recipient of all those passing scores. The team’s rookie and seldomly-used back, CJ Proisse, was also all over the field, recording 66 rushing yards and 87 receiving yards.

Against the Eagles, who allow the fifth fewest total yards per game (323), they are sure to be given a competitive challenge. Still, the ‘Hawks are in a good position. They are a team that does really well at home, as they have a 7-1 (4-3-1 ATS) record in their last eight games at Century Link Field.

As for their own defense, expect it to be imposing. With a 17.6 average, Seattle allows the second fewest points per game in the league. The unit is also effective in getting to the QB, already recording 29 sacks this season, which is good for third-best overall.

Writer’s Prediction

The Seahawks (-6) will again have luck on their side and win a close one, 21-16. They won’t cover the spread.
