Betting on the Pittsburgh Pirates (14-17)
Pittsburgh couldn’t complete the sweep in its three-game set with Milwaukee, losing the final meeting on Sunday, 2-6.
As a team, the Bucs went 6-of-32 at the plate and managed to score just two runs via rookie Jose Osuna’s first-ever home run in the sixth inning. Gregory Polanco had two hits for Pittsburgh and has registered a double in three-straight straight outings.
3B Josh Harrison, meanwhile, didn’t start due to a sore foot, but delivered a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning. He carries team-highs in batting average (.305), homers (5); OBP (.373) and hits (32) this season.
Up the mound for the Pirates will be Trevor Williams (1-1, 5.40 ERA), who is making just his second career start in the majors.
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (17-14)
No official word has been announced as to who the Dodgers are sending up the mound in this opener against Pittsburgh. But sources have indicated that LA is likely going to lean on Alex Wood (2-0, 3.28 ERA), not Brandon McCarthy (3-0, 3.10 ERA) who was scheduled to start in Sunday’s postponed series finale with San Diego.
The Dodgers should be okay with either starter since both have pitched really well this season, and thus, their main agenda is going to be providing the goods on offense. LA currently ranks 12th in the league in runs per game (4.74), including a total of 31 in the last four games.
Justin Turner, Corey Seager and Yasiel Puig have all been doing most of the damage at the plate. Turner leads the team in batting (.377) this season, while the same goes for Seager and Puig in terms of home runs and RBIs.
Writer’s Prediction
