Betting on Richard Gasquet
World No. 27 ranked Richard Gasquet’s last Grand Slam participation ended on a sour note and today, he’ll look to start another with a sweet victory.
Gasquet was forced out of his third-round match against Gael Monfils in the recently concluded French Open due to a thigh injury. With some rest, though, Gasquet is hoping he’ll just be fine in today’s match against David Ferrer.
Gasquet is a strong grass player, who is 6-2 on such surfaces this year per ATP World Tour’s stat page. In addition, his grass court serve rating is ranked 36th in the world so far this year. Throughout his career, Gasquet is 62-28 in grass matches.
Gasquet has never reached the finals of Wimbledon but appeared in the semifinals in 2015, losing to eventual champions Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
Betting on David Ferrer
There was a time when Ferrer was ranked in the top five in the world. He’s 35 now and is just 39th in the world but he’s a very dangerous opponent for the higher-seeded Gasquet because there were also times in the past in which he slapped L’s on the Frenchman’s ledger.
Ferrer isn’t that great on grass matches, however. Even at his peak, Ferrer never went deep in Wimbledon, going past the fourth round of the event just twice since first appearing in Wimbledon back in 2003. Having said all of that, he is 9-2 in 11 career matches against Gasquet, including their most recent meeting, which was a 6-4, 7-5 win two years ago in the Rome Masters.
Writer’s Prediction
Gasquet wins in four sets.
