The Seattle Seahawks are making their back way up the standings with their recent Beast Mode-powered winning streak. However, the defending Super Bowl champs will be handed by far their toughest test in over a month when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs, who are on a five game winning streak of their own.
Both teams have some startling similarities. They’re both 6-3 with excellent running games contrasted by non-existent passing attacks, and neither defense allows many points. But only one winning streak survives past Sunday. Which one will it be?
The New England Patriots’ five-game winning streak is likewise on the line against the very dangerous Indianapolis Colts. Find our preview of that big game here and read up on which streak is in danger of ending.

Betting on the Seattle Seahawks
[sc:NFL240banner ]The Seattle Seahawks seem to have put those back-to-back losses they suffered last month to the Cowboys and Rams well behind them. With their big 38-17 home win against the New York Giants on Sunday, the Seahawks have now won three games in a row and are looking more and more like the defending Super Bowl champions.
The Seahawks’ two big trademarks in their championship run, namely their defense and their running game, have been fueling their recent win streak.
The defense limited the Panthers to just nine points, the Raiders offense to 17 (Oakland scored a touchdown off a blocked punt) and the Giants to 17 after giving up over 28 or more points in half of their first six games. And more importantly, the defense has been creating takeaways. They have seven in the last three games, two more than their total in the previous six games.
Meanwhile, Marshawn Lynch has officially transformed back into Beast Mode, lifting the entire running game up with him. Lynch had 140 of the Seahawks’ franchise-record 350 rushing yards against the Giants and punched in a career-best four touchdowns, giving him six in two games.
Quarterback Russell Wilson hasn’t thrown the ball well, but he’s compensated by giving the running game a different dimension. He had 107 yards and a touchdown with his legs against the Giants, his third 100-plus yard rushing effort this season.
The Seahawks’ resurgent running game will be key in moving the ball against a Chiefs defense that has been mediocre at stopping the run this season (115 yards allowed per game, 19th in the NFL). But the Seahawks’ own run defense will be even more important as it aims to stop the Chiefs’ top-five rushing attack. Seattle is giving up just under 80 yards rushing per game this season.

Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs
At this point, everyone knows what the Kansas City Chiefs are going to do on any given Sunday. They’re going to run the ball, Alex Smith is going to throw the ball as conservatively as possible, and the defense is going to be tough to score against. Through 10 weeks, though, no one has quite been able to find a good solution to the Chiefs’ winning formula.
Since losing their first two games, the Chiefs have won six of their last seven games and four in a row. Their defense, which is giving up the least passing yards per game (205.3) in the league, has been incredibly consistent. They haven’t given up over 20 points since their Week 5 loss to the 49ers, and have given up exactly 20 points in their last three games.
Meanwhile, the offense has been very efficient and ranked sixth coming into Week 10 according to weighted DVOA, which places heavier value on more recent performances. Jamaal Charles, despite missing a couple of games earlier in the season, is still right up there in the touchdown charts. He has eight total scores on the season (six rushing and two receiving), tied for sixth in the league.
Charles is the Chiefs’ only game-changing talent on offense, and his performance will be crucial in breaking through the Seahawks’ tough defense. Charles had only 16 touches for 84 yards in their last loss to San Francisco, but he was just one week removed from returning from his ankle injury. He’s much healthier now though, and should get a slightly heavier workload against the Seahawks.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs (pk) give the Seahawks all they can handle on both sides of the ball. Take Kansas City to cover at Arrowhead.
