Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (3-0)

Point spread: -1.5

The Seattle Seahawks maintained their perfect start to the preseason with a commanding 26-13 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night. Russell Wilson was brilliant once again for the Seahawks, throwing for 200 yards and a touchdown. In Wilson’s three preseason appearances, he has completed 29 of 41 passes for 447 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, giving him an incredible 130.8 passer rating.

Wilson has now done his job and it’s up to the backups to shine in the preseason finale against Oakland. So much is at stake in this clash with the backup QB role seemingly back open in Seattle. Trevone Boykin had a miserable night against Kansas City, missing on all of his six attempts with an interception. Austin Davis, on the other hand, was solid against the Chiefs, going 5-of 5 for 64 yards and a 28-yard touchdown pass to Tanner McEvoy in the fourth quarter.

Betting on the Oakland Raiders (0-3)

Point spread: +1.5

Not even the return of Donald Penn can lift the Oakland Raiders from their preseason woes. The Raiders crashed to their third consecutive defeat with a 24-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys Saturday night. They simply had no answer for rookie Cooper Rush who rallied the Cowboys with two touchdown passes.

That being said, Penn’s return holds more weight than their winless preseason record. The Raiders badly need the services of the Pro Bowler to sustain the momentum of their 12-win season last year. The left tackle returned to action just three days after ending his camp-long contract holdout, playing 17 snaps over two series. He quickly showed his worth, helping Derek Carr engineer a 10-play, 81-yard drive in the opening series. Penn’s expected to get more reps against the Seahawks this coming Thursday.

It will be interesting to see if Marshawn Lynch will make an appearance against his former team. He has played little in the preseason, carrying the football four times for 16 yards in two preseason outings. Given Lynch’s competitive nature, it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if he takes the field against Seattle. Surely making appearances for Oakland are quarterbacks Connor Cook and EJ Manuel. Cook completed 9 of 16 passes for 89 yards in the loss to Dallas. Manuel, on the other hand, went 2-of-4 for eight yards.

Writer’s Prediction

Seattle (-1.5) completes the preseason sweep with a 24-17 victory over Oakland.
