Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (odds)
Record: 11-7 Overall / 4-5 Conference
It seems like the Horned Frogs have finally turned a corner. After suffering five losses in a row (understandable in the cutthroat Big 12 conference), TCU has now stitched together back-to-back wins. First, the Horned Frogs upset the Oklahoma State Cowboys in an 81-78 home win on Feb. 3 then took down the Iowa State Cyclones, also at home, on Feb. 9, 79-76. The Horned Frogs are on an offensive groove right now, having averaged 80 points over their last two games. TCU could also be catching the Longhorns at just the right time, with the Longhorns struggling to win games of late. TCU is averaging 69.3 points this season and is giving up 70.9 per contest. RJ Nembhard leads the Horned Frogs this season with 16.9 points per game but has even stepped up of late, scoring 20 points in each of the last two TCU contests.
TCU is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall.
Betting on the Texas Longhorns (odds)
Record: 11-5 Overall / 5-4 Conference
As mentioned earlier, the Longhorns have hit a rough patch, as they have won just once over their last four games. But at least they snapped a three-game skid with an 80-77 win over the Kansas State Wildcats on the road last Tuesday. That was a nice offensive recovery for Texas, which shot just 25.3 percent in a prior game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Against the Wildcats, Texas made 52.0 percent of their shots and hit 13 of 26 attempts from deep. It’s fair to say that Texas’ offense is back. Texas still ranked 26th in the nation with an adjusted offensive efficiency rating of 112.5.TCU’s defense presents a chance for Texas to keep it going. The Horned Frogs are 176th in the nation with 70.9 points allowed per game and 169th in defensive shooting efficiency with opponents scoring 1.062 points per possession. Texas should also win the rebounding battle since the Longhorns are 11th in the nation with 40.6 rebounds per game.
The over is 9-1 in Texas’ last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas wins, 79-69.
