Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (20-9)
The Horned Frogs had the mistake of starting slow in the first meeting with Texas Tech. They were outscored by the Red Raiders in the first half, 48-24, during an 83-71 home loss back on Feb.3. The Horned Frogs would score 47 points in the second half, but those were not enough to complete a comeback. They were clearly rattled by Texas Tech’s defense that played a big part in why it committed a whopping total of 17 turnovers. Needless to say, those errors will have to be cut down if the Horned Frogs are to avenge that loss. Big man Vladimir Brodziansky had a solid performance despite the loss, as the 6-11 forward finished with 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field. He paces TCU with 15.4 points per game. TCU also shot 49.0 percent in the Texas Tech game which almost met the Horned Frogs’ season shooting percentage of 50.5, but took around nine shots fewer than their season average largely because of their turnovers.
TCU is 3-1 ATS in its last four road games.
Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (22-7)
The bad news for TCU is that the Red Raiders’ defensive performance in the two teams’ first meeting was no fluke. Texas Tech is one of the peskiest teams in the nation, as the Red Raiders make their opponents rack up 15.7 turnovers per game — 13th in the nation. They also allow just 64.2 points per game, so TCU could even consider itself lucky it got 71 points. Conversely, the Red Raiders could take advantage again of Texas Tech’s porous defense that surrenders 76.8 points per game – great for Texas Tech, which is ninth nationally with 84.5 points per contest. Keenan Evans and Jarrett Culver could look forward to another robust scoring game on Saturday. The two combined for 37 points in the first showdown with TCU. As a team, Texas Tech also went 10-for-22 from behind the arc in that game. The Red Raiders are 4-1 SU in their last five home games against the Horned Frogs.
Writer’s Prediction
