Betting on the Texas Longhorns (odds)
Record: 15-7 Overall / 9-6 Conference
Texas got by the Iowa State Cyclones, as expected, during an 81-67 easy win in Ames last Tuesday. With that win, the Longhorns are back to their winning ways after taking a 68-59 road loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Feb. 27. The Longhorns had not won back-to-back games since Feb. 13’s 70-55 home win over TCU, which succeeded their 80-77 road win over the Kansas State Wildcats on Feb. 9 but have accomplished the feat again after beating the Oklahoma Sooners on Thursday, 69-65. Facing the Horned Frogs presents a chance for the Longhorns to extend their win streak and showcase their offense that is averaging 75.1 points per game this season. Texas made 49.1 percent of its shots in the win over the Horned Frogs. Four players scored in double figures for the Longhorns in that game, led by Andrew Jones, who had 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field.
Texas is 2-0 against the spread in its last two road games.
Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (odds)
Record: 12-11 Overall / 5-9 Conference
TCU just got blown up by the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a 69-49 loss in Lubbock last Tuesday. That was followed by a 76-67 road loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers on Thursday. But at least the Horned Frogs were able to cover the spread as 13-point road underdogs against West Virginia. TCU has now covered the spread in two of its last three games, and will enter Sunday’s rematch against Texas having won four of the last five games that the Longhorns visited them in Fort Worth, dating back to 2016. TCU will lean on the pair of RJ Nembhard and Mike Miles, who are averaging 16.6 and 13.8 points, respectively, this season. But the key for the Horned Frogs will be bench scoring. The Longhorns only had seven points from their bench in the first meeting with TCU, while the Horned Frogs’ second unit pumped out 16 points.
TCU is 4-1 against the spread in its last five home games against the Longhorns.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas wins, 76-68.
