Game Preview
If you’re not considering the New York Giants as a Super Bowl sleeper, think again. Two wins over several power rankings’ darlings Dallas Cowboys have certainly put Eli Manning and company in the Super Bowl radar.
More than that, after cooling the Detroit Lions with a 17-6 win on Sunday, the Giants made a strong statement that they’re here to win the NFC East, too. Facing the freefalling Philadelphia Eagles appears to be a great opportunity for the Giants to inch closer to that goal (though they still need the Cowboys to lose games of course).
The Eagles have already tasted a 28-23 defeat to New York back in Week 9 and are merely looking for a way out of a five-game skid with no playoff berths left for them to play.
Carson Wentz will have to be more accurate this Thursday, as he was picked off twice in the first meeting with the Giants. In their 27-26 loss to Baltimore last Sunday, Wentz connected on just 22 of 42 pass attempts with no touchdowns and an interception. He did went off for a career-high364 yards in the previous loss to the Giants, though.
But the Giants’ improved defense is going to be a huge challenge for the Eagles. Dating back to Week 7, New York has allowed just 14.9 points per game. Moreover they’ve been tough to crack on third downs, letting opponents convert there only 29.6 percent of the time.
