Betting on the USC Trojans (-3.0)
Record: 22-9 Overall/14-6 Conference
The Trojans picked themselves right up after an 87-81 home loss to the Arizona Wildcats last Thursday, as they victimized the Sun Devils in their regular-season finale last Saturday, also at home, 68-65. That gave USC two wins in two meetings with the Sun Devils this season – and a huge momentum heading into this Thursday’s game. The Sun Devils just don’t seem to have the right formula to beat USC. USC’s defense has looked too much for the Sun Devils, who failed to shoot better than 39 percent from the field in any of those two showdowns. That’s not really much of a surprise, though, as the Trojans are ninth in the nation with a defensive 45.1 effective field goal percentage and sixth in defensive field goal percentage (39%).
USC is 8-3 against the spread in its last 11 Thursday games.
Betting on the Arizona State Sun Devils (+3.0)
Record: 21-11 Overall/11-9 Conference
Arizona State got the job done in the previous round of the Pac-12 tournament, which is why it will be getting another crack at USC. In their last game, the Sun Devils defeated the Oregon State Beavers on Wednesday, 63-57. The Sun Devils may not have a fresher set of legs than USC, but they are less rusty and all warmed up. Like USC, the Sun Devils also have a solid defense, which finished regular-season play 28th in the nation with just 95.5 points allowed per 100 possessions adjusted. In the last meeting with USC, the Sun Devils held the Trojans to just 41.2 FG% and 46.1 eFG% while also forcing 15 turnovers. The Sun Devils ended up losing by just three points in that contest, so that’s something of a moral victory for Arizona State.
The Over is 11-1 in Arizona State’s last 12 games after a win.
Writer’s Prediction
USC wins, 77-67.
