Betting on the Washington Redskins (+3)

The Washington Redskins had their four-game winning streak snapped on Sunday with a stinging 20-17 loss to the Detroit Lions. The Redskins had no answer for Matthew Stafford who accounted for 298 total yards and a touchdown which he engineered with just 16 seconds left on the clock.  The Redskins will look to get their season back on track when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals this coming Sunday.

For the Redskins to record the much-needed victory against Cincinnati, they will need to execute much better on the offensive end. The Redskins committed two turnovers against the Lions, which Detroit converted into a pair of field goals. In addition to those miscues, the Redskins also missed a field goal that proved to be the difference in this contest.

The Redskins will take comfort in the fact, however, that even with their sloppy play, they still had a fantastic opportunity to pull off the victory down the stretch. Much of the credit must be given to Kirk Cousins who produced another solid performance for the Redskins on Sunday. He completed 30 of 39 passes for 301 yards and a touchdown against the Lions. Cousins had a 106.9 passer rating in that game. He will look to punish a Cincinnati defense that’s allowing 354.6 total yards per game this season, 13th in the NFL.

The Redskins are 4-3 ATS this season.

Betting on the Cincinnati Bengals (-3)

The Cincinnati Bengals returned to winning ways on Sunday with a convincing 31-17 victory over the reeling Cleveland Browns. It was a huge bounce-back win for the Bengals, who suffered a humiliating 35-17 defeat to New England the previous weekend. With the victory, the Bengals improved to 3-4 and moved to within a game of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the AFC North lead.

Key to the Bengals’ victory was their much-improved play on the offensive end. After failing to record more than 23 points in any of the first six outings, Cincinnati finally got its act together against one of the league’s worst defenses in Cleveland. The Bengals racked up a whopping 559 yards against the Browns, their most since 1990. Andy Dalton proved to be Cleveland’s tormentor once again, going 19 of 28 for 308 yards with two touchdowns. In his past three games against the Browns, Dalton is 54 of 74 for 762 yards with seven scores and no interceptions.

Benefiting from Dalton’s stellar play was wide receiver A.J. Green. He caught eight passes for 169 yards and a score. Green is second in the NFL in the receiving department this season, averaging 110.7 yards per game. Green will have his work cut out for him, however, against a Washington defense that has allowed just seven passing touchdowns this season. That being said, the Bengals will still fancy their chances in this contest as they have fared extremely well against the Redskins of late. The Bengals have won each of their last three meetings with the Redskins. The Bengals have covered the spread in all of those three games as well.

The Bengals are 2-4-1 ATS this season.
