Betting on the Washington Redskins (3-4)

The Washington Redskins finally snapped their two-game losing streak with a heart-stopping 31-30 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 25. It was a fantastic victory by the Redskins who rallied from a gargantuan 24-point deficit in this game. That’s the largest comeback for the Redskins in their franchise history.

[sc:NFL240banner ]Washington’s improbable win wouldn’t be possible without the heroics of Kirk Cousins. He completed 33 of 40 passes for 317 yards, a trio of scores and no interceptions. He also ran for an 8-yard touchdown in the second quarter to open the scoring for the Redskins. Also stepping up big time in their come-from-behind win was the returning Jordan Reed. The tight end caught 11 passes for 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Their excellent play will serve Washington in good stead ahead of its weekend showdown with New England. The Redskins will have their work cut out for them, however, against the Patriots as they have been unstoppable at home of late. New England has won its last six games at Gillette Stadium by an average of 19.8 points.

For the Redskins to record a major shock this coming Sunday, they will need to find a way to stop the steamrolling Patriots offense. New England is fifth in the NFL in total offense, averaging 414.6 yards per game this season. That will be a major concern for the Redskins who are allowing a whopping 360.4 total yards per game this season, 19th in the NFL.

With Brady firing on all cylinders right now, the onus is on Cousins to go toe-to-toe with the four-time Super Bowl champion. For Washington to stand a chance against New England, they need Cousins to play a highly-efficient game. In the Redskins’ three wins this year, Cousins has not thrown a single interception. Compare that to their four losses this campaign, wherein he has been picked off twice each time.

The Redskins are 1-9 SU and 4-6 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the New England Patriots (7-0)

Tom Brady

The New England Patriots will head to their showdown with the Washington Redskins with momentum on their side after trouncing the Miami Dolphins, 36-7, on Sunday. It was another impressive victory for the defending champions who grabbed their second consecutive win against the Dolphins. With the win, the Patriots improved to 7-0 for just the second time in their franchise history.

Key to New England’s hot start has been their phenomenal offense. The Patriots are averaging a league-best 35.6 points per game this season. Just like in their previous six outings, it was Tom Brady who led the way for the Patriots against the Dolphins. He completed 26 of 38 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns. Brady set a new NFL record with his 19th game with four TDs and no picks.

Rob Gronkowski was Brady’s favorite target in this game, catching six passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Julian Edelman also benefited from Brady’s masterful performance, recording 81 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions. The Patriots already have 20 passing touchdowns this season, the highest mark in the NFL.

It’s important for the Patriots that their receivers step up again this coming Sunday for them to preserve their unbeaten slate against the Redskins. The Patriots are averaging 329.3 passing yards per game this season, second-highest in the NFL. They will have their work cut out for them, however, against a Redskins secondary that is allowing just 232.0 yards per game through the air this season, good for 10th in the entire NFL.

The Patriots are 1-3 SU and ATS in their last four home games against the Redskins.

Writer’s Prediction

The Patriots ease past the Redskins, 38-20.
