Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers 7-4 (+22.5)

West Virginia is looking to recover from a 28-14 home loss to Texas last week. The Mountaineers fell 14-0 in the second quarter, got to a respectable 21-14 early in the fourth, but could not manage to wrangle up another score.

In the game, QB Will Grier broke his finger and will be out for the rest of the season.

Prior to last week’s game, West Virginia beat Iowa State and Kansas State, both of which are bowl-bound teams. But without Grier, that stat is meaningless. With a 5-3 record in conference play, West Virginia still has a slim chance to make the Big 12 championship game.

Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners 10-1 (-22.5)

Oklahoma is on a six-game winning streak after the 41-3 win over Kansas last week. However, as 41-point favorites, they didn’t quite cover as they clearly took their foot off the gas in the fourth, much to the dismay of bettors who wagered on the cover.

On the game, the Sooners outgained the Jayhawks by a total of 469-155, which now means that they have outgained every single one of their opponents this season, with nine games doing so by 100 yards or more.

Last week’s win locked in Oklahoma’s spot in the upcoming Big 12 championship game. But if they want a trip back to the College Football Playoff, they should not take this game against West Virginia lightly, and must be careful to not take it easy if/when they get off to an early lead.

Writer’s Prediction

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield is not starting, but will most certainly enter the game before things get out of hand. West Virginia is without their starting QB altogether, and so smart money sides with the Sooners. Pick: Oklahoma (-22.5)
