Churchill Downs, of Course!

There’s no better experience than having to watch the “Run for the Roses” live and in person at the Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky. Marvel at the magnificent 143-year-old course where horse-racing legends were born, down as many mint juleps as humanly possible and even have a bowl or two of their famous burgoo.

A word of warning, though: a trip to Churchill Downs will probably set you back a pretty penny. General admission ticket prices for the Kentucky Derby cost around $75, while high-rollers could pony up (no pun intended) as much as $7,000 for a spot at the luxurious Stakes Room Balcony. Counting travel, lodging and other expenses, a weekend at the Kentucky Derby could cost you somewhere between $450 to $12,000.

It goes without saying, then, that a well-planned budget and itinerary at the Bluegrass State will go a long way towards making your Kentucky Derby experience one heck of a blast.

From the Comfort of Your Own Home
