All teams in the CFL this season now have at least one loss after the Winnipeg Blue Bombers finally suffered their first setback with a loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last week. However, there is still one team that is without a win, and that’s the Toronto Argonauts, who will have to dig deep and find some extra motivation to take down Winnipeg, which beat them hard the last time these two teams met. Betting on Winnipeg Blue Bombers (5-1)
The Blue Bombers got upset in their last game, and as a result, also suffered their first loss of the season. Hosting the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 7, Winnipeg did not get the usual efficient performance from its quarterback, Matt Nichols. The signal-caller passed for 261 yards on 29-for-48 completions, while recording just a touchdown against three interceptions. The running game of the Blue Bombers also didn’t do much, producing just 63 rushing yards on only 12 carries in a 23-15 loss. The good news for the Bombers is that they have a perfect chance to redeem themselves following that bitter loss to Hamilton, as they’ll face the league’s worst team in the form of the Argonauts, whom Winnipeg had already crushed at home back in Week 5 to the tune of a decisive 48-21 score. In that game, Nichols went 18 for 24 and finished with 2013 passing yards and three touchdowns without an interception, while running back Austin Harris went wild with 116 rushing yards on 14 carries. Toronto has the ugliest defense in the CFL, so expect Winnipeg to put up a strong performance.
The under is 4-1 in Winnipeg’s last five road games.
Betting on Toronto Argonauts (0-6)
It was a different week, but same old sorry story for Toronto in Week 7 of the season, as they suffered their sixth-straight loss of the season in a 26-0 beatdown at the hands of the Edmonton Eskimos on the road. Argonauts quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson had a forgettable performance under center, coming up with just 90 yards on 6-of-18 completions with zero touchdowns and an interception. On defense, Toronto let the Eskimos steamroll their way to a total of 438 yards compared to just 187 by the Argonauts. At this point of the season, Toronto’s morale is low and some of its players could be doubting themselves, but the Argonauts could also be catching the Blue Bombers at just the right time, as Winnipeg is still nursing itself back following its first loss of the 2018 campaign. Bethel-Thompson actually had a decent game in the loss to Winnipeg earlier this season, passing for 388 yards and three touchdowns with a pair of interceptions on 22-of-39 completions.
The over is 6-4 in the Argonauts’ last 10 home games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Winnipeg wins, 37-21
