Game 1: April 13, 2018 7:10PM EST

Starters: Jordan Montgomery (0-0) vs. Mike Fiers (1-0, 0.00 ERA)

Pitching:

Fiers was solid in his season debut, blanking the Chicago White Sox and allowing only three hits while striking out six in six innings of mound duty during a 1-0 road win on Apr. 8. His team has won in three of his last four home starts, though, all those games happened when he was still with the Houston Astros. The Yankees have not schedule a pitcher yet but that could either be the two call-ups, Domingo German and Luis Cessa.

Hitting:

Neil Walker is 9-for-19 with three doubles and a homer in his career vs. Fiers.

Nick Castellanos is 7-for-21 at Comerica Park this season.

Writer’s Prediction:

Detroit wins, 5-3.

Game 2: April 14, 2018 1:10PM EST

Starters: Jordan Montgomery (0-0, 4.82 ERA) vs. Francisco Liriano (1-1. 2.13 ERA)

Pitching:

Jordan Montgomery was downright clobbered the last time he toed the rubber, as the southpaw hurler gave up four earned runs on 10 hits in just 4.1 innings of an 8-7 loss at home to the Baltimore Orioles on Apr. 8. This came after a decent showing on Apr. 3 in which he went five innings long and gave up only an earned run (but with four walks issued) in an 11-4 home win vs. The Tampa Bay Rays. Montgomery picked up no decisions in both games thanks to the Yankees’ robust offense that has backed him with ample run support. The Yankees are 3-1 in Montgomery’s last four road starts.

Liriano, on the other hand, is looking to bounce back after eating his first loss of the season. He yielded two earned runs on three hits in a 2-0 road loss to the Cleveland Indians on Apr. 9.

Hitting:

Brett Gardner is 6-for-18 lifetime against Liriano

Tigers are batting just .204 against lefties this season.

Writer’s Prediction:

Yankees win, 5-4.

Game 3: April 15, 2018 1:10PM EST

Starters: Luis Severino (2-1, 3.50 ERA) vs. Matthew Boyd (0-1, 1.38 ERA)

Pitching:

Luis Severino surrendered five runs on eight hits and issued three free passes to go with six strikeouts in an ugly 14-1 loss at the hands of the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Apr. 10. Severino will look to pick himself up on Sunday in another road start. The Yankees are 7-3 in his last 10 road starts. Boyd, meanwhile, has pitched well, but the glaring lack of support has prevented him from getting a win in any of his two starts so far this season. In his last outing, he pitched for seven innings, surrendering just an earned run on three hits in a 2-1 loss in Cleveland on Apr. 10. The over is 7-3 in Boyd’s last 10 road starts.

Hitting

Yankees hitters have a collective career batting average of .320 against Boyd.

Nick Castellanos is 4-for-8 against Severino.

Writer’s Prediction:

Detroit wins, 4-3.

Writer’s Overall Series Prediction

The Detroit Tigers win the series over the New York Yankees, going 3-1 overall.
