Betting on Montreal Alouettes (2-1-0)
The Alouettes finally broke into the win column, defeating the Hamilton Tigers at home in Week 4, 36-29. Quarterback Vernon Davis Jr. threw for 202 yards on 14-of-25 completions and did not have any touchdowns or interceptions. Where the Alouettes did the most damage was on the ground, where they scored a total of four touchdowns. Running back William Stanback went wild, rushing for 203 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries, while Davis added a touchdown and 59 rushing yards on just seven carries. The Alouettes have the best run game in the league right now, as they lead the CFL with 175.0 rushing yards per contest. They are also averaging 23.7 points per game. Ottawa has a better run defense than Hamilton, but the Tigers are not that great either when it comes to stopping the run, as they are allowing 100 rushing yards per contest. Expect more running from Stanback and Davis this coming Saturday.
The Alouettes are 8-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 road games.
Betting on Ottawa Redblacks (1-2-0)
The Redblacks came out of a Week 3 bye and immediately absorbed a 29-14 home loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last Friday. Dominique Davis went 21 of 36 for 234 passing yards, but did not find anybody for a touchdown while also throwing two interceptions. The Redblacks offense was crippled by Winnipeg’s defense, coming up with just 240 total yards to 443 by the Blue Bombers. To be fair, Winnipeg has the second-best scoring defense and second-best total defense in the CFL right now. Davis and company can expect a lighter resistance from Montreal’s stop unit that is worst in the league with 532.0 total yards allowed per game. Montreal also surrenders 34.0 points per contest. On offense, Ottawa is averaging 30.0 points and 275.7 passing yards per contest.
The over is 4-2 in Ottawa’s last six home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Ottawa wins, 35-15.
